3 days in Rapid City SD
by bodori
We will be 3 days/ 4 nights in RC SD. Looking particularly for good photo sites. Obiously Rushmore, what else is on the must see list? What is the best tour route through the area (Custer, etc)? Looks like lots of choices.

I would hit Wind Cave also. You can do Wind Cave and Rushmore in one day. I'm honestly not sure what else you can do around there. Custer, Sturgis (if you're interested in that stuff), Deadwood. Those would probably fill another day, but mostly with driving. Badlands National Park and Devils Tower are driving distance from Rapid City, although I'm not sure that Devils Tower is worth that drive just to see it if you're not continuing on to another place.
hope that helps

If you are seeing Rushmore you should also go see Crazy Horse as well. For lots of other Black Hills ideas see the link below

Jewel Cave is another place to visit in the Black Hills.
It depends if you want natural scenery (Custer State Park, Badlands, ind Cave, Jewel Cave), history (Deadwood), or large sculptures (Rushmore, Crazy Horse).
Also, I remember that there was a great scenic overlook coming out of the Black Hills down into the plains. Unfortunately, I can't remember the route number.
Travel Tips for Rapid City
Skyline Drive
by Sagespot
Even if you are not going up to Dinosaur Park, take a few minutes and drive along Skyline Drive in Rapid City. The views are amazing and you can see well into the Black Hills as well as out into the Badlands. There are several pull offs that make it easy for photos and vista viewing.

"Rapid City/Black Hills"
Rapid City is a fairly big city with over 60,000 people living there. It is located along Interstate 90 and US Highway 16. Rapid City is a nice place to base yourself out of while touring the Black Hills area of Southwest South Dakota (like Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave and the Badlands), especially if you like bigger cities. I just ate dinner here and spent the night. I need to return and explore the town some.
