WFTR's new Spearfish Page
I think Spearfish is the town that hosts some big bikers' convention every year. I'm not interested in motorcycles, and I've been able to avoid being there when the town was crowded. I think some people see Spearfish as a destination in its own right, but I've never found it to be that exciting. However, it is a good jumping-off point for reaching nearby destinations. Devil's Tower is just across the border in Wyoming, and one might stay in Spearfish before heading to Devil's Tower the next day. Bowman, North Dakota is a couple of hours north over what I consider to be one of the loneliest drives in the country. (This feeling likely comes from the fact that my truck broke down the first time I went to Bowman.) When I visited North Dakota in '93, I made my start from Spearfish on my way to Theodore Roosevelt NP and stayed in Spearfish when I returned a couple of nights later.
