what neighborhood?

by muffintop

Hi! I'm thinking about moving to your fine city. Can you help me with choosing neighborhoods, perhaps by zip code? We have 2 small kids and thus want a yard. I like older houses, say, anywhere from 100 years old to 50 years old. I like to be within walking distance to coffeeshops, cafes. If there is a "revitalized" downtown area, that'd be great. Basically I like to be near people and "things", yet still have a yard and kid-friendly neighborhood. If anyone knows of zip codes that fit this, OR can give me an address of a coffeeshop/bookstore/cafe/etc that has cute old houses nearby (but isn't run-down), that will help my search on realtor.com Thank you!!!!

hope this gets to you...although kinda late.

I used to live in Midtown Memphis..in the 38107 zip district next to Rhodes University & 3 blocks from the Zoo. Nothing was really within walking distance, but by car and within 2-5 minutes, there was. Almost all the homes in midtown are very old, with the exception of a few large new ones built on plots. Loved growing up in that area.

If your wanting to be within walking distance to shops food etc. then I would say the midtown area around Overton Square area might work (if you can find a home to your liking in that area). http://www.overtonsquare.com/,
The zip area is 38104.

Central gardens in midtown is where my aunt & uncle still live. Georgeous huge older homes!

Another option is Chickasaw Gardens in the East Mem area just outside midtown. Some beautiful old homes tucked away from a main street. Pink Palace, shopping & lots of restaurants close by.

Read the "Midtown" section.

Hope this helps a little.

This is probably way too late, but it's been a while since I logged on.
The best neighborhood for cute, funky, older-type bungalows with stuff to do is North Chattanooga, area code 37405. There is also a cute Victorian area called St Elmo that has undergone major transformation and is on the South Side of the city at the foot of Lookout Mountain. That area code is 37409. Another possibility is Red Bank, area code 37415, which is where I live. There is a mix of 20's and 30's style homes and 70's apartments. Hope it helps, but you probably already live here now! Welcome to Chatt!

Travel Tips for Chattanooga

Tennessee Aquarium, I-Max 3-D,...

by WILDEFLOWER

Tennessee Aquarium, I-Max 3-D, Take a free Bus tour around.30 minutes takes you all over so you can see where you might want to go. Loved the Aquarium. Use the free Trolley to get around the whole town. Then go across the bridge to the park with a Merry-Go-Round in it. My son skateboarded all over the park paths.

Off the beaten path, you ask? ...

by DrewV

Off the beaten path, you ask? How about Chickamauga National Battlefield? One of the bloodier battles of the War of Northern Aggression was fought here. Some people call the war the 'American Civil War,' but 'War of Northern Aggression' just sounds better, really. Anyway, the battlefield is beautifully serene, and good exhibits show the march of the armies and the cannonfire.

I-max Theator

by CUZCOinALASKA

If you have been to any I-max before, expect relativley the same experience. The movies make you feel like you are really there, not only with 3-D technology, but with digial surround sound and the six-story tall screen.
The movies are expensive at $8 ($5.50 for kids, 3-12) for a 45 minute film. However if you purcase a aquarium-I-max combo, it's only $4- a bargain.

Enjoy the Tennessee River

by V_Minx

Downtown, just beyond the Tennessee Aquarium, lies the Tennessee River. To enjoy a view of the rolling water, the riverboat, or any number of motorboats and small yachts just grab a seat along the tiered wall. It is a relaxing place to escape the larger crowds gathered outside of the Aquarium.

Civil War - Ohio Reservation

by Toughluck

Ohio volunteer units were the predominate troops making up this part of the Federal line. When the attack on Orchard Knob went so fast, it was Ohio troops that supported and led the charge.

Located mid-way along the Crest Road, just above the tunnel on Brainerd Road. The easiest way to get here is by taking Brainerd Road (north of (-24) to the east side of the tunnel through the ridge. Make a left turn (regardless of direction you're coming from) and follow Crest Road, south (left on both routes). Follow Crest Road south, until crossing a bridge spanning a gap and I-24. There is a weird stop right after the bridge. Turn right (uphill), and around a bend. Bragg's Reservation is on the left.
