Guests also can enjoy an antique trolly ride around the complex, a Model Railroad Museum and ten unique retail shops. Whenever I visit the Chattanooga Choo Choo I always take time to stroll through the formal rose gardens, complete with fountains and rose and herb displays. I usually find myself humming the "golden oldie" tune about the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Whether or not you choose to stay here in one of the guest rooms, a visit to the Choo Choo is a MUST. Great Hotel. So many options to choose from.
We had originally planned to take one of the rooms that were in the train cars, but arrived too late to get one (need to call ahead a day or two in advance). We then had choice of rooms on upper floors upfront or on ground floor in the section behind the train cars. We chose the latter because it was farthest from the road (in case there was traffic noise, which there wasn't anyways).
The room was two double beds, non-smoking, with full amenities (coffee maker, microwave, iron, hairdryer, etc.). The room was large with plenty of space to move around. It was clean but looked a bit old (not frayed or ripped, just a bit faded). Access was right next to the back parking lot which was convenient. Entry was by hotel passcard only. There was a pool and public sauna, exercise room and "library" room with magazines and brochures.
The main entryway was "old train station" as was the lobby and breakfast area. The ceiling was huge and vaulted with chandeliers high up. You expected to hear a conductor rattle off a list of departing trains and their destinations.
The cost was about $85 AAA in 2003 (the sleepingcars were $10 more). A continental breakfast was offered free. There were three gift stores on the premises and a barber and beauty shop as well as a restaurant and cafeteria. And don't forget the train museum, candy shop and ice cream store. Plenty to do and see right in the hotel complex.
