missing the gym and/or the pool while traveling?
the williamson county parks and recreation department has a terrific recreation center just about two miles north of downtown franklin.
nonresidents can pay $3/day to use everything, which includes an indoor track (14 laps is one mile), basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball courts, free-weight rooms, exercise and weight/strength training machines, indoor and outdoor pools, and daily aerobics classes (extra $5 walk-in fee per class).
the tennis courts are free and lighted until 10 pm.
there is a very small concession stand at the outdoor pool.
if you are over 55, i think you pay $2/day.
you need soft-soled shoes for the indoor track.
you need towels (and toys or rafts if you want them) for the pools.
they have locker rooms with showers; i think you have to bring your own soap/shampoo and towels. they also have lockers, for which you bring your own lock.
other than the things listed above, they provide all the equipment.
they have child-care service for kids from 6 wks to 9 yrs old; the service allows 12 kids maximum and is first-come, first-served. it is available on monday thru thursday, 8-11:30 am and 4:30-7:30 pm; on fridays, it is available only 8-11:30 am. this is free, but it is not a general babysitting service -- you have to be at the recreation center while your child is being babysat.
the recreation center is open on monday thru friday, 6 am to 9 pm, on saturday 8 am to 6 pm, and on sunday 1 pm to 6 pm.
the address is 1120 hillsboro road, franklin, TN, 37069, phone 615/790-5719. actually, though, you have to turn onto fulton greer lane (there is a light at the intersection of hillsboro road and fulton greer lane), then go to the end of the street.
