Just returned from a week-end at the Bearskin Lodge. The River Road location is much quieter than the hotels on the main street of Gatlinburg, yet we had a nice easy walk to the Aquarium which is on the other end of town. The only concern I saw or had about the hotel was the elevator. For those needing to use the elevator, there appeared to be a wait. We just used the stairs and avoided it.
we loved it...very clean and rustic....would stay there again no doubt

the quiet end of Gatlinburg

We have stayed at Bearskin Lodge the last three times we have visited the Smokies and will probably stay there again our next trip. It's located at the quieter end of Gatlinburg and very convenient to the National Park and to the Gatlinburg by-pass (for quick access to Pigeon Forge). My husband is a runner and loves to run on the trails within the National Park, so being close to those trails is a plus for us. Great parking "under" the hotel - close to the elevator. The rooms on the back are the best, as far as the sounds from the river are concerned. Staff always nice.
Don't be put off by the unfriendly staff!

Upon arrival I was extremely glad about the location which is at the quieter end of the lively Gatlinburg 'strip' consisting of bars, restaurants, Ripley's attractions and gift shops. My initial reaction to the exterior of the Hotel of delight was soon clouded by the extremely unfriendly, unwelcoming Front Desk staff. Thankfully the room was divinely cute, very spacious, spotlessly clean, well equipped and had a great little view of the River from the balcony. We enjoyed our two night stay and in particular make sure you take yourselves to the nearby Cherokee Grill for your evening meal. Also worth a mention are the Smoky Mountain Brewery for lunch and a beer and Calhouns. Make a stop also at the very scary Mysterious Mansion further down on River Road...
A great place to stay!

My husband took me to Gatlinburg for my birthday back in March of this year. We lived in the North Georgia Mountains at the time. The room was just right, not fancy but cozy with a fireplace and jacuzzi. We relaxed on our balcony over looking the river and ate wonderful meals at several restaurants, all within walking distance. This is a great place to stay! P.S. Be sure to check out the continental breakfast! YUM!!!
The Best in Gatlinburg

The Bearskin was great. Just got back from a 3-day trip with my wife (no kids). We had a king room with a 2 person whirlpool....very nice. If the kids are with us next time, I'm sure they would love the pool and lazy river. Its in a nice location, just one block off the strip and on the stream. Can't beat it!
Good Hotel (if you can ignore the tiny elevator)

This is one of the newest hotels in town, so everything was neat and clean when we visited. The rooms were tastefully decorated and comfortable. I would recommend this to friends, with the caveat that they not take a lot of luggage. This hotel has undoubtedly the smallest elevator I have ever seen! Not very useful for getting a family (let alone their luggage) upstairs at once. We found it more convenient to take the stairs.
This Place was OK

The Bearskin is really handsome from the outside and the staff was friendly and helpful. We thought the room was OK - we didn't like the bed bug bites and thought the room was dark. Other than that it was OK. Our kids loved the lazy river - it's about 25 feet around, but it's heated and they enjoyed that. The balconies overlooking the river were great, as is the location - you can walk to everything. It's much better to stay on River Road than Parkway. The City of Gatlinburg does a great job making it a beautiful little town. There are pretty flowers planted all along River Road. The town is clean and the people are very friendly. It's a great family getaway for a few days.
This place was terrific, even if it was a bit pricey!

We stayed at this hotel in downtown Gatlinburg in October 2003.
The woodsy decor and lobby was great. The staff was nice and helpful (even bringing us new sheets at 2am when our youngest son threw up in the middle of the night from a stomach virus). Kids had a blast in the in-room jacuzzi tub and sitting in front of the fireplace.
It is right beside the Ober Gatlinburg Tram, but quite a haul if you are walking to the downtown shops. The free breakfast was nothing to write home about, but are they ever?
The outdoor pool and lazy river were heated just right, and what an experience when the air is cold and the warm water creates rising steam. We loved it, and wish we could afford to go here every year.
