RE: edgewater or clarion

The Edgewater is very nice. There is a Clarion right outside of Pigeon Forge that is beautiful, but away from all the action. you won't go wrong with the Edgewater. Try to get something centrally located in town so you don't have to worry with parking. I just got back from there yesterday. You'll have fun.

Travel Tips for Gatlinburg

Harvest Festival

by bigorange1103

My favorite time of year is fall!!! Gatlinburg has the best harvest fest around. They decorate the town and have hayrides and other great activities. Harvest Fest runs from Sept. 16th through Oct. 31st this year.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

by Stephen-KarenConn

If it were not for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg would most likely be a small, isolated, mountain community. The only industry here is tourism, catering to the needs and desires of 10 million visitors a year who come to America's most visited National Park.

Admittedly, one reason the Smokies is so popular is because it is within a day's drive to half the population of the United States. But that alone doesn't draw visitors. The 500,000 acres of the Great Smoky Mountains, equally divided between Tennessee and North Carolina, comprise some of the highest and wildest peaks in the eastern United States. They also happen to be one of the most beautiful spots on earth. The Smokies is a place of lush greeness, with more varieties of flowering plants and trees than in all of Western Europe. It is also the home to Whitetail Deer, Elk, Red Wolves, Wild Boar, River Otter, Black Bear and numerous other species of wildlife.

More than 850 miles of hiking trails wind through the mountains, and there are even more miles of fishable streams. Those who explore here discover hidden waterfalls, restored pioneer farmsteads, and beautiful mountain vistas in abundance. To learn more about the Smokies see our Great Smoky Mountains National Park tips under North Carolina.

One of the best places we ate...

by marzz3

One of the best places we ate was the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant.
Good service (rare in the turist area of Gatlinburg). The complex has a creamery, candy factory, and winery....all to explore after your meal!! The food was great!! I had a veggie plate...but others ate Chicken Fried Steak. Yum Yum! The apple fritters were addictive......and so were the buscuits!!! I wish I could've saved room for some apple cobbler!!!

Hike to The Grotto at Roaring Forks

by 807Wheaton

This is a good place for an adventure that lasts about two hours. There is not a lot of parking in the parking lot at the entrance to the falls but cars were parked up and down on the side of the road. The dirt trail is a little ardous, but not steep. There are rocks and roots to walk over and on a busy day other hikers.
Along the way are several lovely waterfalls, and the sound of falling water is pleasant. It's nice to be in a place where it's so quiet you can hear the birds. Ferns cover much of the area and there are lots of big trees that form a cool canopy when hiking.
There are several trails to choose from when you get to the base of the hiking area.
