Question about cabins in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area

by ChristyS

We are looking into staying in a cabin for our honeymoon in September. We would like something romantic, but with the beautiful mountain views. I have seen pictures on the internet and the views look spectacular, but I have heard that some of these cabins are right on top of each other and you can practically see into your neighbor's cabin or they can see into yours - definitely not ideal for a honeymoon! Is this true, and if so, what is the best way to avoid this? Any info is appreciated.... :-)

I have stayed at a cabin company called Cabins For You. They have great secluded cabins and honeymoon cabins. This site is perfect if you are looking for a great Gatlinburg rental cabin.

I know of 2 great cabins in gburg and they are perfect for honeymooners. One is called Happily Ever After and the other one is once upon a time. Aren't those great names. Anyway you can locate them on the web, I think it is called Gatlinburg cabins on line.com. I think you will really like them, away but close to everything. Perfect, my husband and I stayed at Happily ever after on our anniversary, going to try once upon a time next. Good luck

Travel Tips for Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg Cabin Trips:packing in Early September

by Silki45223

A small backpack for shopping is great because you can carry your needed items along with a camera and any small gifts you buy. This is more convienent than carrying around a large purse or handbag. Besides if you are like me and need a purse to make your clothes one nuetral color back pack is great. It is very warm in early September. I went September 11th thru the 13th and it was around 75 or 80 during the day and around 60 and night in the upper mountain cabins. Comfortable clothes and shoes is a must. t-shirts, shorts, a pair of jeans and a light jacket for nights, flat shoes or sandals, gym shoes. Dont forget your pajamas. It didnt rain any when we were there but from what I hear it tends to rain unexpectantly , so maybe a rain jacket or poncho A first aid kit is very essential on any trip, they sell the small purse sizes, which carry the normal necessities, band aids, gauze pads and alcohol pads. Or you can make your own all you need is band aids or liquid band aid, alcohol pads, gauze pads, antibiotics. DONT FORGET a small bottle of adivil or excedrin, just in case. any vitamins or medicines, makeup and hair needs, shower accessories, body ball, shower gel, body spray deodorant, etc. The cabins by Timber Tops are equipped with towels, wash clothes, and a small hotel size soap. Camera, video camera, binocolors, Dont forget your cell phone. Swim suit is essential because there are in door pools there and most cabins have a hot tub. The timber Top cabins pretty much have everything you need as far as dishes towels and so forth. I always take an oil burner with scented oils, some pool shock for the hot tub because our hot tub smelled like mildew so add about 1.5 oz of pool shock to the hottub to get rid of the smell and this also assures that it is clean before you get in. I take some scented hot tub pouches you can find these in the garden area at most walmarts. The cabins have some board games but if you have some favorites take them, Ipod, and maybe a mini ipod speaker system, salt & pepper, spirits, I took my bb gun with some targets because thats the perfect place to shoot it, out in the open woods. any food items you may want, water, Ice, aluminum foil. The cabins also are equipped with grill some have gas and others have charcoal grills so be sure to see which one yours will have and take charcoal, I prefer the the kind that doesnt need lighter fluid, less things to carry. a lighter, chargers for your cameras, cell phone and ipod.Have fun

Drive the Smokies

by janiac

We tried to drive to the area of the Smokies where the elk have been released, but it was a very windy road. The kids got bored, so I gave up. But my mom who went with us enjoyed the scenery.

Here she is with my kids (of course being a boy, my son had to make a dumb face for the camera) *sigh*

We all scream for ice cream!

by lighthouser41 about Ben and Jerry's

To me going to Ben and Jerry's was one of the highlights of our trip. I know they have many stores, but none where I live. This was my first time eating their ice cream at a shop and it was all I thought it would be. And the prices were not outrageous compared to the cost of everything else. My favorite flavor was the brownie batter. Yum! Tasted just like brownie batter. Also had a good flavor that tasted like an almond joy candy bar. Forgot the name of that one

Panera Bread

by palmas57 about Panera Bread

This is a great new addition to the Gatlinburg area. It has great food, and even has a fireplace inside for those cold days in the winter. Wonderful sandwiches and bread. Good place to stop by and get bagels to take back to your cabin or hotel room for tomorrow morning or a late night snack.

Clingmans Dome

by BurrGump

Definately take the drive to Clingmans Dome.
Clingmans Dome
At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the third highest point in the Appalachian Mountain range. Only Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet) and Mt. Craig (6,647) in Mt. Mitchell State Park rise higher.
Clingmans Dome is a popular park destination. Spectacular vistas await those willing to climb a 30-minute steep half-mile walk to the tower at the top. On clear, pollution-free days, views expand over a 100 miles. Unfortunately, air pollution often limits viewing distances to under 20 miles.
Clouds, precipitation, and cold temperatures reveal the hostile environment atop Clingmans Dome. Proper preparation is essential for a good visit. Although Clingmans Dome is open year-round, the road leading to it is closed from December 1 through March 31, and whenever weather conditions require.
I also recomend trying the by-pass trail to Clingmans Dome.
