Vegetarian food in Gatlinburg?

by debsky

We're going to Pigeon Forge in December and one of my kids is a vegetarian. I know Old Mill has some things to eat - any other ideas?

RE: Vegetarian food in Gatlinburg?

stokley's apple barn is heavy on the meat, but also has great old time veggie platters. Also the burning bush. Lots of places have the potato skins and other appatizers, just order without the bacon or what-ever. My favorite place is th chop house in sevierville, and you can probably check their menu on-line or call them. they are very good at service, and if you call ahead they will come up with something. they also have (or had) a great tomato basil soup that you could get with bread.

Travel Tips for Gatlinburg

Donate something to preserve the beauty

by monica71

Donation boxes are all over the park. Make sure you drop some change in there. Remember that the rangers are volunteers and they do not get paid. All the money are being used to preserve the park and its beauty. I was really sad to see how many cars were passing by these donation boxes without making a donation. We were the only ones putting some money in these boxes while visiting Cades Cove and the Cataloochee Valley.

Horseback riding --- up into the mountains

by Darkeyedgirl

I found this farm by accident back in 1998 when I stayed for a week by myself in a cabin. I got bored (imagine that) and wandered... til I found horseback riding! It's on the way into Dollywood, kind of off back by itself... follow the signs for horseback riding til ya get to the farm. You'll be taken on an hour long ride, past lakes & streams, up up and away, until you reach the top of the (breaktaking) mountain.

It's called Walden Creek Stables --- they have bonfire rides, overnight rides, wild rides, family rides, short rides... they can accomodate, and they match the rider to the horse very well.

Take the kids, or just go by yourself... either way it's a wonderful way to see the mountains' beauty if you don't have a convertible, and you can balance yourself atop a horse!

Check out Mountain Mall in G'burg

by Sassy417 about Mountain Mall

The indoor mall that has it all. Over 45 unique shops in all. Shop in climate-controlled comfort. Something for everyone will be found here* Crafts, antiques, clothes, soveniers, regional memorabilia, you name it, they have it* some things a bit pricey, best to shop around to find the best deal there.

Apple Fritters, Apple Butter, Apple Cider!

by RVRoller about The Apple Barn

This is a whole complex of eateries and shops. There is even a wine shop. The atmosphere is laid back, relaxed, and there is even a porch you can sit on. I recommend sitting in a rocking chair on the porch after your meal. It gives your food time to digest as you visit with others visiting the site.

The Apple Barn has its own orchard and processing plant that you can visit. Oh, and don't forget to pick up a gallon of their delicious Apple Cider while you are there! The apple fritters the you dip in the warm apple butter brought to you.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

by grandmaR

My SIL who is an aquarium collector (he loves aquaria) thinks this is one of the best. It is a little pricey ($15.95/adult; $7.95 child 6-11 and $3.95 child 2-5), but quite good with large tanks with various sea creatures, divers, an exploratorium type place for the kids, an exhibit on the Titanic, and a place where you could touch the rays.

I have four travelogues of pictures (27 more photos) on my Gatlinburg page.
