Mount Le Conte Lodge: Lodge At Mount Le Conte

by Florida999

You have to hike up Mount LeConte to get there! It's a 10 mile hike up the mountain, took us around 4 hours with some breaks. The lodge books up all the time, we could not get a reservation, but we did look inside one of the cabins. It looked fairly basic.
It would probably be very nice to spend the night up there, and watch the sun go down.
If you want to have lunch up there in the dining lodge, you have to reserve it in advance. There is drinking water available from the pump.

It's ON TOP of a MOUNTAIN! What more do you want!:-)

Quality Inn: Nice Hotel In Gatlinburg

by Florida999

After our long hike up the mountain, we drove to Gatlinburg, and stopped at the first hotel we saw that had a "vacancy" sign. Had no problem getting an inexpensive , nice room. The room was well equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee machine, enough towels in the bathroom , clean sheets and pillows and a/c that worked fine. It even had a balcony and was next to a small creek.

Very good location, nice inexpensive hotel! Located right outside the Great Smokey Mountain NP , downtown Gatlinburg. You don't need to drive around either if you don't want, they have a trolley.

Hilton Airport: Hilton Airport Hotel in Knoxville

The facilities are very nice. The restaurant is pricey, but the shuttle drivers will drive you anywhere within a 5-mile radius. The pool was a little hard to find, but the whirlpool and pool were very clean and quiet. My room was great!

Best Western Valley View Lodge and Comfort Inn: 2 good family Inns in peaceful Townsend

by Ky_Happy_Dad

When we go to the Great Smokey Mountains, we usually like to spend at least one day at Cades Cove and go hiking or biking on the scenic loop road. (Wed's and Saturday mornings until 10:00 the road is closed to cars). Townsend is the most convenient town to this end of the national park. We have stayed at both the Comfort Inn and the Best Western.

Both are clean and comfortable and provide simple self serve breakfasts (pasties, waffles etc). Both are similar. The Comfort Inn is newer. I would stay at which ever had the best rate. The Website provided below is for the County visitor information center and lists all accomodations, special events etc.

Unlike Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, Townsend is more rustic. I like the comparitive peace and quiet of Townsend. A bike path runs along the front of the road. Both motels are located near the visitors center. Both are close to Cades Cove in the park and a river that is perfect for tube floating on a hot summer afternoon. Expect to pay about $100 per night or less after the busy season.

Meadow Motel: "Unusual" Experience

by Phlebas2

If you've ever had an urge to experience th true "no-tell" Motel, plan a visit to Meadow Motel. This place has it all. hookers, late night renezvous, but forget about ice or hot water.

The rates were good, the owners wary, and the entertainment fascinating.

Spent most of the night watching the working girls dome and go. Nut make sure you plan on taking a shower early, the "housekeepers seem to like to turn it off around check out time. If you want ice, you will get 2 lbs, if you beg.. If you're cheap and adventureous, go for it, if not move along..

No pool no pets, no cotinental breakfast but plenty of "interesting" nite life customers.. Just plan on going either to a "chain motel" or get the hell out of this god forsaken town if you want the slightest semblence of hospitality or service.. after all it is a "military town" not a resort.

In general Clarksville has really gone down hill since my previous visit. So unless you have a need to go there, why bother..

MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center: A Versatile Place to Stay in the Tri-Cities

by cruisingbug

I stayed here when the resort first opened, on a preview night. The staff was friendly, the room was nicely decorated in Mission-style, food in the restaurant at breakfast was great.

I've also attended a convention here - facilities were very good.

My family comes here for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners every year - they love the food and festive atmosphere. Check out the fantastic fireplace in the lobby!

Set in the northeast Tennessee mountains, convenient to Kingsport downtown and industrial areas, yet in a quiet setting.

Deer Ridge Mountain Resort: They say That It's "The Best Views of the Smokies"

by deecat

When we stayed at Deer Ridge Mountain Resort, it was during one of our spring vacations from teaching. However, it was cold, and there was snow! That did not stop us from enjoying our stay.

The resort is located just off the Great Smoky Mountains Parkway. Our stay was in an overnight condominium rental. The resort is really in a quiet area near the community of Cobbly Nob which is about 15 minutes from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.
We stayed in a one bedroom, one bath condo, but they also have one bedroom/one bath with a loft and two bedroom/two bath.

We were going to go golfing at the Bent Creek Golf Course right in the valley below, but the weather was not condusive for golf.

Our place was very nicely furnished and was quite large. The views were, as advertised, spectacular.
It's a great place for family vacations, and all you need is to go to the grocery store and stock up on food and drink because their are fully-equipped kitchens.

There is a wonderful indoor pool, a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. If you wish, you may play tennis, golf (weather permitting), rent a movie or book from the library and video rental place.

They also have arcade video games. If you have children, it's good to know that there is a half-acre family playground area with a playhouse, swings, basketball court, volleyball, horseshoes, grills, pavilion, and picnic tables.

For a very quiet spot with out-of-this-world views of the Great Smoky Mountains, this place is for you.

Fairfield Glade Travelodge & Conference Center: Time Share Has Become Travelodge

by deecat

On three different occasions, we stayed at Fairfield Glade (before it became Fairfield Glade Travelodge & Conference Center). We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath townhouse. It had a fireplace, patio looking out on woods, full kitchen, living room/dining area combined, a huge (enough for 4 people) tub in the master bathroom, and plenty of closet space.
At that time, the address was in Crossville, a nearby town.

In 2001, it was completely remodeled and has become a full service private resort.

The grounds of this place are stunning with rolling hills, trees, many lakes, and abundant activies. At least 70 non-smoking places are available. (Thank goodness.)

They have a great in-door swimming pool, many outdoor adult and family swimming pools, five (yes 5) Golf Courses, 3 restaurants on site, on-site Equestrian Facility, beaches, boat rentals, eleven (yes, 11) Lakes on-site, two Marinas, and 24-hour service!

The resort also has a bank, barber/beauty shop, pharmacy, sauna, and a gift shop.

While here, you can take hikes, take mountain bike rides, go sailing or boating, take in the beach, play tennis, do all kinds of water sports, go fishing, go horseback riding, go swimming either indoors or outdoors, or just read a book.

Places I would recommend in the area:
Chestnut Hill Winery (6 M)
Cumberland Mountain State Park (10M)
Fall Creek Falls State Park (30 M)
Antique Mall (12 M)
Flea Market (10M)
