RE: FIRST TIME
When it rains, it pours! The second Tri-Cities post in as many days...after none in months! :) It's a beautiful area, very friendly. I lived there for several years and my family is still there. I miss living there.
If you're coming from Boston, there's no bad part of Kingsport that you have to really worry about - it's pretty tame. Just be aware that the overwhelming smell of money (ie the Eastman Chemical plant) hangs in the air and can literally take your breath away until you get used to it.
Some places of interest - MeadowView Conference Center and Resort - has a great restaurant on-site, as well as golf course, etc. Near there is Bays Mountain Park, with a planetarium and wolf rehab. In Colonial Heights at the other side of Kingsport is Warriors Path State Park - with boating, picnicking, etc.
A good site for info is http://www.gotricities.com/content/home.dna
The generally accepted best BBQ (although I'm personally not a fan) is Ridgewood BBQ in Piney Flats. Visited by many celebs.
Enjoy your stay - email me if you have any specific questions.
