Knoxville Living

by LeavinNY

I am a 24 year old social worker. I am looking to try a new city and was wondering if someone could tell me a little about Knoxville. I want to live in a city with laid back, open minded people. I hope to live in an area with other people close to my age. Is downtown Knoxville expensive? Fun? Stuff to do? I prefer to live in an area where there is a lot of action and stuff to do within walking distance. Would that be downtown Knoxville? Any info anyone could provide would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

I've been in Knoxville for 6years now and love it. It's a beautiful city and small enough to get around easily. The people are truly genuine and so very kind and nice. The mountain views are spectacular...but as far as downtown Knoxville--not much in bustling activities yet. They are renovating buildings into lofts/apts and that helps bring new, young crowd downtown. The city is still renovating our downtown and hopes to have it very active in a few years. We do have Sundown in the CIty with bands playing every Thurs night from April-Oct. This really is happening!!!
I think it's a wonderful place to live and raise kids and settle into a bit of a slower pace, less congested city.
Good luck!!

Travel Tips for Knoxville

Gatlinburg - Pigeon Forge - Sevier County

by meteorologist1

Sevier County, the county located just south of Knoxville, is home to some cool destinations. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are the two most interesting places, although I liked Townsend (a.k.a. the peaceful side of the Smokies) too. Pigeon Forge has a lot of shopping opportunities, and Dollywood is also located there. Gatlinburg is a nice little town situated in the mountains (near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park). Gatlinburg is very unique and beautiful. All these places are must-see's if you're coming to East Tennessee.
