Need help finding good accommadation in Memphis

by nanapie

I am travelling with my brother and wife, and ideally would like a hotel suite with two bedrooms or an apartment with two bedrooms in a good safe location. I cant seem to find anything like this on line . Can anyone offer any assistance please.

I live in Memphis. If you want to be downtown I'd recommend the Peabody Hotel, or the Holiday Inn downtown, in fact anything downtown by Beale St. is safe. It's near all the attractions

As far as safe, and maybe less expensive i'd recomment the Hilton off Poplar. It's a quick drive downtown on the interstate.

Memphis is a great place!!!

Agree....Another suite set up is the Embassy Suites (Shady Grove location). The Embassy and Springhill have suite style set up....good for 3 or 4 folks.

Try Tunica

by Jinmiss

An alternative to staying right in Memphis is booking in Tunica, Mississippi. It's just south of Memphis and has a variety of different hotels and accommodations. I think it would be perfect for your trip because it will get you out of downtown Memphis, but keeps you close enough to really get the most out of your trip. Also, as a smaller city it offers a safety element that most larger destinations can't. Plus you get to enjoy two destinations at once, and Tunica has great nightlife and I love the Vegas-style casinos.

Travel Tips for Memphis

Do I even have to say it? Get Graceland out of your system and move on. There is more fun to be had. Memphis is at it's best in the Spring. the entire city is in a beautiful bloom of Magnolias,Dogwoods, and Azaleas. Try to come in mid April or May. The rest of Summer can be ungodly hot and humid, while winters are often dreary and cool. Fall is nice here too.

Overton Park

by daileyjoy

Overton Park is the best park in Memphis. It has this air about it, it is just cool. You have playgrounds and bike trails. Within the park is an outdoor music theater called the Overton Park shell, the Memphis Zoo which includes 2 pandas, Memphis Brooks museum, and Memphis college of art. In all it is about 340 acres and you will find a melting pot of different types of people doing anything from walking the dog to groups of people playing drums. My SIL and I like to ride the bike trail and then bike over to a local bar and have a glass of wine. It is very nice.

Historic Beale Street

by MattW212 about Historic Beale Street

Historic Beale Street provides something for everyone. A few notable places are B. B. Kings club, Elvis Presley's Memphis and Silky O' Sullivans. For a more dance oriented experience try Have a Nice Day Cafe or Alfreds. Beer enthusiests will enjoy The Flying Saucer, located off of Beale. For those late night cravings, try the Blues City Cafe. All of these Memphis spots will provide. Come in whatever makes you comfortable. You will find people dressed in every manner of dress, from shorts to business dress.

by grandmaR about Dyers Burgers

We were let out of the tour on Beale Street to have lunch. We ate here

Open Mon-Wed 11am-1am; Thu 11am-2am; Fri-Sat 11am-5am; Sun 11am-12am We ate lunch at Dyers (founded in 1912) - we each had a hamburger (photo 2) and I had an ice cream soda, and Bob had a milkshake - made with real ice cream.

Their website says:

Featuring ICE CREAM
AUTHENTIC "SODA JERK" FLOATS
Your choice of Soda topped with Vanilla Ice Cream $3.99
THE ORIGINAL "SUPER DOOPER" ROOT BEER FLOAT
The one and only made with "IBC" Root Beer $3.99

MILK SHAKES

We could also have had a deep fried twinkie or a hot apple dumpling with ice cream

The Finest the World Over

by grandmaR about Neely’s Barbecue (West)

We asked at the visitor's center for a good BBQ place, and the lady there sent us to Neely's. Apparently Neely's has two locations in Memphis and one in Nashville.

The restaurant was started in 1988 by four brothers. By 1997, it was voted the best ribs in Memphis and then in Nashville. Al Roker has given Neely's his stamp of approval, and they have also been featured on Good Morning America, and The Food Network with Bobby Flay. Their food is served in FedEXForum in Memphis and Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville. Neely's BBQ sauce is sold in local grocery stores, Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores.

They also do catering.
