Memphis Belle
by Tom_Fields
This was the first USAAF bomber to complete 25 combat missions over Nazi Germany during World War II. This was BEFORE the Army Air Force had long-range fighters (such as the P-51 Mustang) to escort the big bombers into the heart of the Third Reich and back to bases in England. No mean feat it was. It was re-created in a contemporary documentary and a more recent movie.
The plane used to be at Mud Island, but the USAF is planning to move it to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. RIght now, it is at the Jim Webb Restoration Center. This is near the airport; check the web site for latest information.

Authentic Irish Pub & Restaurant
by soundsgoodtome about Dan McGuiness
This pub was designed and built in Ireland, disassembled, shipped to Memphis via the MS River, and then reassembled on site by the same men who bult it. The owner wanted his Irish pub to be 100% authentic. It is located inside the Peabody Place entertainment complex, which is in the heart of downtown, one block north of Beale St. along 3rd St. They serve all the Irish beers you could want, along with a fair selection of ethnic dishes such as fish n chips. The service was slow, but probably because there one only two waitresses on a Saturday night. Its not very big, but has plenty of seating, some of which is in a cafe-like setting outside the restaurant and in the middle of the mall area. Real trees are planted inside and the roof of the main central area is skylit as to make you feel as you're outside, except that the weather is always nice and the temperature comfortable. Bangers & Mash was the only meal I had. This Irish dish has smoked sausage, mashed potatoes with onion gravy, a dinner roll, and purple cabbage. Everything was good except the cabbage, not to say that someone else wouldn't like it though.
Excellent, affordable burger!
by sarahbeth11 about Alfred's on Beale
We headed here for dinner on Saturday because the menu posted outside looked like it fit our budget. Not only was everyone incredibly friendly (several employees and restaurant regulars came to talk to us) but the food was excellent! Our table was right next to the band, who started to play in the middle of our meal. They interacted with us as we enjoyed our meal and their music. A very pleasant dining experience! The half-pound cheeseburger definitely hit the spot. I think it's called the Alfred's Burger, or something creative like that. Everything comes with a big plate of chips, great for snacking after you've finished your meal!
