Hampton Inn 1000 Oaks area
Hi,
We are planning a brief visit to Memphis in September with friends from Canada. (1 night in Memphis) We currently have reservations at Hampton Inn I-240 at Thousand Oaks on 2700 Perkins Road. Is this a safe area? Is it near good restaurants and shopping? Near Beale Street? Also is there parking on/around Beale? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There's another decent Hampton Inn off of 240 on Poplar thats near Folk's Folly, Houston's and Corky's BBQ and Starbucks.
I've stayed there twice last year for business, but remember the steak at Folk's more than the hotel room.

Go to Beale but don't get suckered into going to the Rendezvous for ribs. The place sucks. It's smelly, they give you paper plates and ribs at Chili's are better.
Go to Corky's for ribs.Bobby Flay just did a show on him.

I would not stay in the area you are talking about. It's not exactly known as a good or safe neighborhood. I wish I could recommend a place for you to stay, but since I live here I've never found the need to stay in a hotel. Maybe try some of the places around I-40 & Sycamore View. There are a lot of hotels & restaurants in that area, but it'll be a bit further away from the sights. I would suggest if you want to park on/around Beale to park in one of the parking garages at Peabody Place. You can't miss it, and it seems safer than leaving your car on the street. I know a lot of people who parked on the street & have had their cars broken into.

The place I was suggesting you not to stay is the one at 2700 Perkins Road. The place mentioned above sounds good.

i live in memphis so i don't know about the hampton inn but i do know if you go to beale street watch your wallet. pickpockets abound there. i have witnessed this myself many times.
