You have to eat at...
by KristinaLMF
You have to eat at Breadbaskets. I lived in Memphis off and on for a year and the name changed a few times, but the food stayed the same. Whether the name has changed or not just ask for the Breadbasket and everyone will know what you are talking about.
Casinos in the Delta
by anderschwan
Now, Tennessee is still strictly against gambling, being the bible belt and all, but Mississippi has no problem taking your money. Besides, Memphis is really "North Mississippi" anyway. If you have the time and want some Vegas style action in a weird sleazy Delta atmosphere - go to Tunica. Heck, in college we went there all of the time for the free drinks. And it's not nearly as expensive as Vegas, either.
Go about an hour south of Memphis on Hwy 61 and it's impossible to miss.
Dan McGuinness Irish Pub
by myrtle about Dan McGuinness Irish Pub
This place is run by real Irish people in Memphis. We've always enjoyed going to this place. The environment is great, the food is pretty good, and sometimes you can even find some live music here. My friends especially loved this place the first time we went. They were telling me about how they would bring out a cigarette & someone who worked there would stop by & offer them a light before they could even get their lighters out.
AWESOME RIBS
by krizt about Beal Street Cafe (I think)
The menu was pretty much the same as all the other restaurants around. There's a bar attached to the restaurant and we went there the night before and had fun there. I split a rack of ribs and there was more than enough food for 3. The ribs literally fell off the bone and the cole slaw was excellent. My friend Kerrey got a burger and said it was really good. The service wasn't very good, and my coffee wasn't great and it was luke warm.
The value for your money was awesome but the service needs improvement.
Automatic Slim's Tonga Club
by emilienoelle about Automatic Slim's Tonga Club
Automatic Slim's is a small, upscale downtown restaurant with a hip and ecclectic decor and the food to match. They call the cuisine "Southwestern & Caribbean", but it is more "New Amercian", the chef taking traditional favorites and adding his own personal twist to them. The service was very good, but they are on the exspensive side so that is to be expected. The interior has a cozy, intimate feel. This would be a great place for a nice, romantic evening out. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends. Closed Sunday. I had the butternut squash ravioli. They were served in a browned butter sauce and they were delcious. My husband had a whole fish served Carbibean-style with mango and hot pepper salsa which was also quite good. They take great care with preparing their food and everything I saw coming out the kitchen looked beautiful. They also have a cool bar with zebra upolstered bar stools, a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink and an appetizer.
