BRUNCH Buffet
by Catpurring
does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go for a Sunday Brunch Buffet?
Re: BRUNCH Buffet
by riorich55
9 years ago my wife and I were in Memphis for the very first time and just up the street from our hotel was a place called Owen Brennans. I just looked them up on google and they are still there. We had the brunch that day which was accompanied with music. It is a bit on the cajun side so it will have some spicy foods along with the typical brunch items. I see also that their chef is from my hometown of Naperville, near Chicago.

Travel Tips for Memphis
A Prayer to St. Jude
by grandmaR
On the Saint Jude Hospital Grounds at 332 North Lauderdale Memphis Tennessee 38105 is the grave of Muzyard Yaakoob (Amos Jacobs) AKA Danny Thomas. Birth: Jan. 6, 1914 Death: Feb. 6, 1991 and his wife Rose Marie Thomas Birth: Mar. 6, 1914 Death: Jul. 12, 2000. Danny Thomas's name is a derivative from the names of two of his brothers.
His parents were Syrian, and the story goes that as a young man, he prayed to St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes, to “show me my way in life.”
Many years later (after he stared in the TV show "Make Room for Daddy" for many years), he decided to build a memorial hospital to St. Jude as an expression of gratitude for his success.. Memphis was chosen as the site because it was more or less the center of the country, so that it would be accessible to almost everyone. Adjacent to the Danny Thomas/ALSAC Pavilion is the Danny and Rose Marie Thomas Memorial Garden which is not only the site of the burial crypt of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas and his wife Rose Marie but a functional park which furnishes a contemplative setting for hospital staff workers and visitors alike to enjoy a peaceful place for relaxation.
After I briefly toured the Pavilion, I walked around to the Memorial Garden which was quite peaceful and beautiful even though it was late winter or early spring and there weren't many flowers in bloom.
Packing List
by Pamzam70
You can bring a suitcase if you like, and if you're going to leave it in your hotel. Other than that, a day pack is good to haul your camera, video cam, and the like in. Memphis can be very, very hot in the summer. Girls, its gets pretty humid, so be aware of that when your hair either frizzes or goes flat!! As with any vacation, wear very comfy shoes.
Beale Street
by jholley534
Beale Street is one of America's most famous streets where W.C. Handy first penned the Blues music of the Mississippi Delta. Located in the heart of downtown Memphis with three blocks of more than 30 nightclubs, restaurants and retail shops. Music includes traditional Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz and Rock 'n' Roll.
The world-famous street also features the W.C. Handy Performing Arts Park, a music-related "Walk of Fame," and Robert Church Park. After 11 pm on weekends and other nights when the street is closed to vehicular traffic, no one under 21 is allowed in the Beale Street Entertainment District unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Mud Island Monorail
by jholley534
The Mud Island monorail connects downtown Memphis with the Mud Island River Park. Its two stations are at the convention center on Front Street and at the Mississippi River Museum on the island. It runs on a high elevated structure that passes above Riverside Drive and an inlet of the river.
The Swiss-made monorail will take you across the harbor to Mud Island River Park. Traveling at an average speed of 7 miles per hour, each cabin can carry up to 180 passengers for the 1/3 mile trip. The monorail runs only during the summer and costs $2.00 for a roundtrip ride.
El Mariachi
by Shari about El Mariachi
I like the prompt service, my husband and I usually have lunch there at least twice a week (enough that most of the staff know that we'll be sitting in the non-smoking section, what we want to drink and that we want the guacomole dip). Quesadilla Rellena is filled with beef strips (or chicken), the white cheese (I don't know what kind it is) and tomatoes. There salsa is very good and the guacamole is to dine for.
