Lovely boutique hotel, great location!

by TripAdvisor Member mespos

My husband and I stayed here for just one night recently. We were upgraded to a lovely corner room overlooking the city street viewing the Peabody Hotel just accross the streeet. The room was clean and elegant; furnished with dark woods in classic decor. I felt as though I were in a lovely B & B! The king bed was wonderfully comfortable. Bathroom is small but to be expected in a city hotel. Location is within easy walking distance of Beale Street. We only had to walk accross the street to see the Peabody Ducks at the Peabody Hotel; shows at 11 AM & 5 PM. Several restaurants along the streets with the Rendevous Rib place just behind the Holiday Inn back in the alley. (I did not care for the spicy powder liberally sprinkled on the ribs.) Would caution visitors against carrying purses and wallets down to Beale Street especially during the daytime or late at night; lots of panhandlers approached us asking for money. Although the hotel was lovely and will definitely stay there again; we would advise visitors to not use the service elevator which is the most obvious way to access your car in the parking garage. It would be quicker to just walk up a level or two to access your car; parking fee is $10 per day (again, not unusual for a city hotel property.) We ate breakfast at a cafe back on the next street called "The Bon Ton" which we would not recommend; food was fine; service was horribly slow - and there was hardly no one to even wait on! The breafast buffet at the Holiday Inn there looked very nice although we did not eat there.

Great location & service

by TripAdvisor Member ejaws

The hotel is in a great location, next to Rendevous & Peabody. The service was excellent...very helpful, accomodating and freindly. The beds were suprisingly comfortable for a hotel. Parking is good, but did not find out it was $10.00 a night until we got our bill. Overall, a very enjoyable stay. We would definetly stay here again if we return to Memphis.

Pretty sweet place

by TripAdvisor Member Pir8guy

I thought this was a pretty darn nice Holiday Inn. It has some character. The location is fantastic....easy walk to Beale Street and right next to the Rendezvous ribs restaurant. (sorry, but that place is overrated).
The room was on the small side, but was very comfortable. It's not cheap, but very competitive with the other properties in the Beale Street area.
The front desk was friendly and helpful.
Recommended.

so-so

by TripAdvisor Member flyingrob

Ok so this hotel is OK. Only OK.

The woman that checked me in late at night was rude. Now she wasn't overtly nasty or anything, but she just lacked any form of personality. She never smiled once, nor did she welcome me to the hotel.

The rooms have just recently been remodeled, and while they have clearly spent a lot of meny re-doing the rooms they missed the most important part - THE BED! Its quite funny especially because these days every hotel has a really comfortable bed. The bed here at the Holiday Inn is AWFUL! Its your typical old-school hotel bed. Its low to the ground and the mattress is real old.

The bathroom counter though is great. The counter is much higher than normal and this is so much better for tall people like me!

They have free internet.

Room Service is pretty darn ordinary. Both times I ordered my meal was not delivered as ordered.

The rooms facing the street are quite noisy too.

Location is good - right across the street from the Peabody.

Oh yeah, one thing that I thought was a little unusual (not seeking to offend anyone....) Was the open bible on the desk in the guestroom as I arrived. Not only was the bible open , but it had a bookmark with the hotel's logo and a prayer from the General Manager. I wasn't offended by it, but found it a little overtly religious!

Nice hotel, but have some issues

by TripAdvisor Member HUSKERTRAVELER

This Holiday Inn has a great location, right across the street from the Peabody, and 2 blocks off of Beale St. We felt very safe walking back to the hotel late at night, and did not encounter any panhandlers.
Our biggest complaint was that we had reserved a king and were given 2 doubles. We arrived behind schedule and only had a couple of minutes to meet our tour so we didn't have any time to complain and change rooms. It also seemed a little odd to us that the maids were still cleaning rooms at 5 PM.
The rooms were very clean, and nicely decorated. There is also a good view of the city. The bathrooms have beautiful countertops, a makeup mirror, and a great showerhead. The problem is that they are the smallest I have ever been in. There was barely enough room to turn around.
The service elevator to the garage was very, very, very slow. Almost everytime we got on any elevator it went up instead of down.
We thought it was pretty skimpy that gold level priority club members were only given a free continental breakfast. Big deal, a donut and coffee. At almost every other Holiday Inn we have been to we have been given a free hot breakfast. We also thought the $10 parking fee was a little steep. If they weren't going to give you breakfast they could have at least waived the parking fee for priority club members.
Overall, the hotel is nice, can't say the same for the service and perks.

A very nice hotel

by TripAdvisor Member annerob

The hotel has a great location across from the Peabody, and a short walk to Beale Street. The rooms are nicely decorated, very clean. Bathrooms are small but nicely done out. If you are a priority club member you get vouchers for a free continental breakfast (its free to join), but you need to ask for them. We stayed two nights here and
two nights at the Peabody, but my Mum actually prefered this hotel, she thought the Peabody was too posh!! Free internet access in ther lobby which was always available. Pool area is currently being resurfaced, but looked like it would be nice when finished, gym was also closed. If you like to have a good standard of Hotel this won't dissapoint, couldn't fault it really. But then again it did only cost
an extra $8 a night to stay at the Peabody, which was in a different class!

Great Hotel, Great Location

by TripAdvisor Member ElvisFan67

We originally planned to stay at the Heartbreak Hotel but due to its location and the fact that once we had been to Graceland we would have been taking shuttles in and out to Downtown we decided to change our booking.

We read lots of different reviews and chose this hotel based on what we had read over the last few months.

The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. We were over to celebrate my 40th birthday and my friend contacted the hotel before we came and they even organised balloons.

Our room (which was a corner room on the 12th floor overlooking the Peabody) had two double beds, a huge telly, fridge, microwave, coffee maker and well appointed bathroom with a great shower. The towels were changed daily.

We joined the Holiday Inn Priority Club on a recommendation
(online) before we left and this entitled us to free continental breakfast each day (or a drink in the bar). Breakfast was certainly adequate for us and included a selection of cereals, fruit salad, fresh fruit, yoghurts, a variety of pastries or muffins and bagels which were toasted on request. Coffee was also included. They also had fresh juice and a selection of hot food available at a charge - we didn't use this.

The hotel was in a superb location for Beale Street, just two blocks away and safe to walk day or night.

Based on our experience we would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Had a Great Time!

by TripAdvisor Member ATennesseeTraveler

This was my 1st visit to Beale Street and I absolutely loved it. The hotel was very nice and in a great location. Our room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was quite small but the rest of the room was fine. It was just a 2-3 block walk to Beale and I fealt very safe walking to and from there even late at night. During the day we also took a really nice walk to the river and then along Main Street where there are no cars and only the trolly runs up and down. It's also just a short drive to Sun Studios and accross the street from the Peabody.
