Drury Inn vs. Sleep Inn at Court Square?

by Pamzam70

We're thinking of staying at either the Drury Inn (out by Wolfchase Mall) or the Sleep Inn at Court Square, near downtown. How far is the Drury (driving time)? Would anyone recommend one over the other?

Thanks!

Depends on where you want to be. If downtown, stay downtown. Definitely. Drury Inn isn't really in a great area. It's off the interstate, about 4 miles from Wolfechase Mall. If you're looking to stay downtown, Sleep Inn is right in the middle of downtown.

Travel Tips for Memphis

Obviously, THE thing to do is visit Graceland...that's a given. Even if you're not an Elvis fan, Graceland is just one of those 'American must-sees.' Beware, though...the house is basically as he left it--TACKY. The house still has all the 70's decor that was popular back then. My fondest memory of Memphis is the music. Everywhere you go, you are enveloped in the sounds of music, mostly the blues. You can't walk 10 feet down Beale Street without hearing some type of music coming out of the bars into the street.

Also, the people are really friendly, and are more than happy to help out if you are lost or just need an idea of what to do/see next.

You will find at the centrally located Memphis Public Library and Information Center, there are 119 computers for personal use at no charge. There is no time limit on most of them, and are available without reserving in advance. It is a great way to keep in touch with loved ones and check e-mails, etc. You can also use the printer, but it will cost you $0.20 per page for a black and white copy, or $1.00 per page for a color copy. There are several other branches that also have computers, but there is usually a wait, and a time limit of one hour, because they have a limited amount of computers to use. The main library is your best option, and is located at 3030 Poplar Ave. There is a great French pastry / bread bakery practically next door called La Baguette that is wonderful, too.

We love the patio!

by sarahbeth11 about Rum Boogie Cafe

This was the site of our first drink on Beale Street. We loved being able to sit outside and people-watch while we enjoyed a tall glass of Bud Light. (Unfortunately, the first one wasn't very cold. We came back to watch the parade from the patio on Saturday, and were very satisfied with the second!) The atmosphere here is awesome - they have hundreds of guitars hanging from the walls and ceilings. The first thing I asked the host was, "Where is the Aerosmith guitar?!" and he was quick to point me in the right direction. We weren't actually IN the bar for the nightly entertainment, but from the street it sounded pretty good!

Best Ribs in town

by Bullabong about Blues City Cafe

The restaurant is not the best looking in the world, but the food is the best on Beale Street. Lots of famous people including Bill Clinton have been known to frequent. Tom Cruise has visited and there is even a scene in 'The Firm' with Tom at one of the booths. The ribs are the best I have tasted, you can buy them by the full rack or half rack. All served with fries, beans, coleslaw and texan toast. Other great items on the menu are the Catfish and the crab stuffed mushrooms.

My favorites are Automatic...

by ccitrone

My favorites are Automatic Slims (downtown area), Marinas (in Overton Park area), Tsunami (Cooper Young area) and, of course, Corky's for BBQ.
Automatic Slims has really unique Caribbean food. Lunch here is fantastic. Marinas is formal dining with the menu rotating so call to get reservations and the country they are featuring. Bring your own wine. Visit Joe's in Midtown for the best selection of wines. Tsunami has a cool atmosphere and great food. Corky's - be prepared to wait but you will not regret it. Make sure you get the onion loaf.
