very nice pet-friendly hotel with great service

i was driving from central arkansas to nashville, TN, so memphis was a good stopping place for an overnight. since i was going east, i wanted to find lodging on the east side of memphis so that i wouldn't have to cope with memphis traffic in the morning.

this la quinta inn is a very nice four-story hotel, and it has an elevator. i had a room with two double beds, a microwave, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a large flat-screen TV. local calls are free. i didn't need to make any long-distance calls, so i'm not sure how those would be billed. the heating worked great and the shower had lots of hot water, which was really nice, because i chose the second-worst week of the year for traveling -- snow, sleet, icy roads, temperatures down to 15° the night i was there.

they have a free breakfast, but i didn't wake up until after it was over, so i didn't get a chance to check it out. they advertise free wi-fi too, but i don't have a laptop, so i didn't try to check that out, either. the write-up on their website says that they also have laundry facilities. there is an indoor pool. parking is free.

i paid $100/night and made my reservation through their website.

Unique Quality: i was very tired from traveling for almost two weeks in horrendous weather, but the people at the desk were conscientious above and beyond the call of duty, in my opinion; they made sure that everything was working well for me.

for instance, the TV is on a satellite, and i could not get it to show any channels, so i called the desk. the woman on duty came up almost immediately and got the TV to work (she unplugged it, fiddled with some buttons on the back, then plugged it in again). after she had gone back down to the desk, i couldn't figure out how to set the closed captions, so this very helpful woman came BACK up and set the closed captions for me. she was extraordinarily patient and kind to me, which i greatly appreciated.

BEST OF ALL FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THIS HOTEL IS DOG-FRIENDLY, with no additional fee for the dog! if you have a dog with you, it would probably be easier to ask for a room away from the elevator to reduce the problem of noise from people walking by.

Directions: east of memphis, about half a mile off I-40, on the south side of the interstate; i think it is exit 12, but i'm not positive, the exit is marked "memphis east/sycamore view"
