very nice pet-friendly hotel with great service

whenever i drive from central arkansas to nashville, TN, memphis is a good stopping place for an overnight. since i am going east, i try to find lodging on the east side of memphis so that i won't have to cope with memphis traffic in the morning.

this la quinta inn is a very nice four-story hotel, and it has an elevator. i have had rooms with two double beds and with a king bed; all of the rooms also have a microwave, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, and a large flat-screen TV. local calls are free. i've never had to make any long-distance calls, so i'm not sure how those would be billed.

the heating works great and the shower has lots of hot water, which is really nice, because in february, 2015, i chose the second-worst week of the year for traveling -- snow, sleet, icy roads, temperatures down to 15° the night i was there. the AC also works great; in september, 2015, it was very hot, and the room was frigid when i checked in. i turned it down to "AC, low," and was very comfortable.

they have a free breakfast from 6 am to 9 am, and amazingly i have been up in time for it. an excellent spread -- toast, sweet rolls, bagels, bacon, two kinds of sausage, eggs, cereal, grits, waffles, fruit, biscuits, etc. good hot coffee, good cold OJ, plenty for everyone. they advertise free wi-fi too, but i don't have a laptop, so i didn't try to check that out. the write-up on their website says that they also have laundry facilities. there is an indoor pool. parking is free.

i paid $100/night and made my reservation through their website.

Unique Quality: in february, 2015, i was very tired from traveling for almost two weeks in horrendous weather, but the people at the desk were conscientious above and beyond the call of duty, in my opinion; they made sure that everything was working well for me.

for instance, the TV is on a satellite, and i could not get it to show any channels, so i called the desk. the woman on duty came up almost immediately and got the TV to work (she unplugged it, fiddled with some buttons on the back, then plugged it in again). after she had gone back down to the desk, i couldn't figure out how to set the closed captions, so this very helpful woman came BACK up and set the closed captions for me. she was extraordinarily patient and kind to me, which i greatly appreciated.

BEST OF ALL FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THIS HOTEL IS DOG-FRIENDLY, with no additional fee for the dog! if you have a dog with you, it would probably be easier to ask for a room away from the elevator to reduce the problem of noise from people walking by. the dog-walking area behind the hotel is small but adequate. they provide plastic bags and a garbage can for disposal of dog poop; as one dog person to another, i beg of you, please clean up after your dog! we want to keep ourselves (and our doggies) in the good graces of dog-friendly places to stay!

Directions: east of memphis, about half a mile off I-40, on the south side of the interstate; i think it is exit 10 or exit 12, but i'm not sure; the exit is marked "memphis east/sycamore view"
