Our room was beautiful, really luxurious. We decided to splash out and stay at a nice hotel, as a Christmas present to each other. High tea was a great experience, and the ambience of the Lobby was lovely. There were so many people to see the ducks we barely saw the head of one duck. And this was on a Tuesday afternoon, I can't imagine how many people are there on the weekend. We got up early and went to see the ducks in their Duck Palace and it was just the two of us. You can get a great view of the city from the top of the Duck Palace. It is so expensive to stay here. The one down side is that the price was often misquoted to us. I called ahead and made reservations for high tea and they quoted me 16.00 per person, when in reality it was almost 22.00 per person, plus tip (which is automatically added). Then I ordered wine through room service and it was twice as much as was quoted to me over the phone when I ordered it. We would have taken high tea irregardless, I just don't like a business that lies to me repeatedly.
The location is great, the lobby is plush, and there are dozens of restaurants, a shopping center, and a movie theatre within walking distance, plus Beale Street. The Peabody is a Memphis institution located on its current site since 1925. Like the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, the aim of the Peabody has been and is to provide a luxury hotel fitting of the image of southern hospitality and civility. It is located in the heart of downtown and within easy walking distance to Beale Street, the Gibson Guitar Factory, Autozone Park, and Fedex Arena. Rooms are spacious and equipped with great beds, linens, complimentary bathrobes, marble counters in the bathrooms, and nice chairs in which to relax. Service is good without being extraordinary. Staff were friendly and accomodating when asked a question. A nice place to relax and have a drink is the wonderful great hall in the center of the hotel's ground floor. A bar sits on one end and the chairs and sofas are very comfy. A striking Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts style ceiling looms above. The Peabody includes a pool, day spa, adequately outfitted exercise room, business center, 2 restaurants including the critically acclaimed Chez Philippe, pastry/coffee bar, lounge, and shops including Lansky's which has high-end men's and women's wear and is operated by the man who was Elvis' personal tailor, Bernard J. Lansky. The big attraction is the twice daily march of the Peabody ducks to and from the great hall fountain from the elevator which transports them to and from their rooftop palace (it's really more of a cage). The ducks spend the day in the great hall fountain, never venturing out. The march, led by the Peabody Duckmaster, between the elevator and the fountain is a much anticipated and well-attended event that occurs at 11am and 5pm daily. The ducks (1 mallard and 4 drakes) are rotated out every 90 days. Training usually takes 5 days. It's best to avoid the great hall in the area around the fountain and bar during these times if you don't want to get caught up in the crush.
Casual elegance; all the things you might expect at a luxury hotel. Great central location. Before I went on the Memphis City Tour, I had never heard of the Peabody Hotel. But the tour driver told us that the Peabody is reknown for the March of the Ducks which occurred at 11 am every day. She dropped us off at 10:30 at the hotel so that we could see it. We went up to the mezzanine level to wait, and I looked around a little bit while I was there. In the center of the lobby is a fountain which is where the ducks swim. On one side is a bar, and there is also a player piano in the lobby. But I have not stayed here. They have a special which is called: Bed & Breakfast Package Includes one night’s Deluxe accommodations, plus: * Breakfast in-room or in Capriccio Grill * VIP turndown service * Valet parking Rate: $235 for double occupancy

The lowest priced single room is $195 per night, $225 for a double.
This hotel is over 130 years old, and is absolutely beautiful inside. Pure luxury. But the main draw has to be the ducks, who live in the hotel. Everyday at 5pm, the ducks march (to some grand music, might I add) out of their fountain in the lobby and into the elevator, where they go up to their 'penthouse.' It's really cute, and worth watching even if you're not staying at the hotel. Theme: HotelComparison: most expensiveOther Contact: http://www.peabodymemphis.com/ 1

It is a beautiful, restored hotel. The most unique feature is the ducks that live on the roof and daily march to the lobby and swim in the fountain. Theme: HotelComparison: more expensive than average

A very charming old hotel, built in the 1920's and lovingly restored to its lush, lazy, and rather ostentatious former glory. Theme: HotelComparison: most expensiveOther Contact: (901)529-4000
