Travelled to Memphis for a weekend get-away, and booked Talbot Heirs boutique hotel on line. The hotel occupies the 2nd floor of a 2-story commercial building, and consists of about only 12 suites, each with sitting area, kitchenette (pre-stocked with orange juice, milk, bottled water, cereal, coffee, tea and biscotti), bedroom and bath. The owners, Tom and Sandy, are phenominal hosts, greeting us personally at the door, familiarizing us with the area, and giving us recommendations on everything from wine shops to transportation options to events. This is a perfect accomodation for independent travelers. (Note: All suites are second floor without elevator, and thus, not handicaped-accessible.) The room rate was $165.00/night inclusive of everything except taxes, a bargain compared to the name, full service hotels virtually next door.
Unique Quality: The location is ideal: across the street from The Peabody, 2 blocks to the trolley which takes you to The Pyramid concert venue and RiverWalk Park, walking distance to the Arts District and Civil Rights Museum, small grocery stores nearby, around the corner from Rondevous Bar-B-Que, Red Bird Baseball Staduim, and 2 blocks to Beale Street. We only needed the rental car to visit Elvis' ghost at Graceland, Sun Studios, and Overton Park.
