Worthwhile Restaurants - no chains

by MadAboutParis

The restaurant section for Nashville is full of comments that don't mention the name of the restaurant - so, does anyone have some recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

It's been awhile since I've been there, but check out the forums on
tripadvisor... Here's a link to a discussion there.

Thanks...we were there last weekend and had terrific food at Noshville and Judge Bean's. We tried to go to Pancake Pantry, but the line was too long and we had to get back on the road.

I really like the Sunset Grille, across from the Pancake Pantry. They have a special menu after 9:00 pm I think and things get cheaper. I also like the Melting Pot (if you're into fondue) and Demos' downtown for steak.

Travel Tips for Nashville

Hot & Muggy Summers and Cold Winters!

by lvanland7

What ever your means of travel will accomodate. As in all areas, money and credit cards are best kept on you body and not in handbags or totes. Summer: light clothing and comfortable shoes for walking hills. Winter: warm, layered clothing and again comfortable shoes. The weather is changeable. Nashville has many pharmacies including some open 24-7. Dury's and Wolfe Camera both carry a broad range of photo equipment. There are photo shops in most of the pharmacies, discount stores, and there is Chromatics and Star Photo Services. Camping facilities are limited to RV campgrounds. No actual beaches other than lakes. Nashville is built in a valley with rolling hills therefore comfortable walking clothes and shoes are a necessity. Tootsie's Orchid Lounge

by Ewingjr98 about Live Music

Tootsie's was originally called Mom's until Tootsie Bess bought the place in 1960 and had it painted an orchid color. In the early days, this bar near the Ryman Auditorium hosted such famous customers as Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Mel Tillis, Roger Miller, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline and others. Of course that was back when the Ryman Auditorium was still home of the Grand Ol' Opry radio show, and the singers just had to stroll a few blocks down the street for a drink.

Today Tootsie's is famous for its live country music all day every day from 10am until 3am.

Tootsie's also has locations in Panama City, Florida, and in the Nashville Airport. We stopped at the airport location where they had two performers taking turns singing old and new country hits. We relaxed for about 45 minutes while waiting for our flight and really enjoyed the music.

My video from Tootsie's airport lounge is located here.

Waffle House - near the airport

by Ewingjr98

After flying in to Nashville Airport late one night, we had breakfast the next morning at a Waffle House just outside of our hotel. At Waffle House you always know what you are getting, from the waitresses, to the food, even the clientele. We had a good breakfast of eggs and meat, and we enjoyed the friendly, southern waitresses who kept our coffee cups full. The customers were slightly redneck as you;d expect, one guy came in wearing a wife-beater and his boxer shorts.

Two good meals here will run you about $15.

Excellent Margarita's, OK Food...

by TravellerMel about Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant

A local chain of Mexican restaurants, this one is very close to my office. The staff is wonderful - very friendly. Decor is typical "Mexican restaurant" - sombreros, bright colors, etc.

Hit their website before you go - there is a "Buy 1 lunch/dinner, get one 1/2 off" coupon. I'm always put off by Mexican restaurants that use ground beef, and this one does. The chile rellenos are the largest I've ever seen, but the cheese inside was runny and not very flavorful. There was not enough rice on the plate to know about, and the beans were also runny and non-descript. Nothing was BAD, mind you - just unimpressive.

Unimpressive, that is, until you get to the margaritas - my goodness, I think this might be the best margarita I've had since I moved to Nashville. FYI - On Fridays, the margaritas are 2-for-1 all day!

Opryland Hotel, first class all the way

by sabogg01

This place is HUGE it had a very New Orleans feel about the inside. It was in atrium form with a lot of plants, waterfalls, and even a river. The parking for the hotel was expensive but you do have the option to park at the mall and walk. We paid extra for the riverboat tour. It was a lot of fun. Our guide was knowledgeable about the hotel and the history behind it. There were a lot of shops and restaurants to check out. Divine (The woman on stilts) was there and she was amazing! A beautiful place and the highlight of our trip.
