Had a wonderful stay at the Preston, I did enjoy the lobby the crayon dress the decor was cool. The service of the staff was top notch, one member told me about a restaurant I should try (Woody's Steak House) while in town. And it was a awesome ribeye. The hotels facilities were very clean and well kept. I highly recommend the Preston.
Unique Quality: The best qualities were the staff.
Rooms are standard size, and the bathrooms are small. The rooms are retro, but "cool retro", not kitschy. The linens on the bed were very luxurious, and I liked the room decor (lots of old Nashville prints - I had a photo of a very young Dolly Parton in my room).
Coffee and dessert in the restaurant, Cafe Isabella, was really good - definitely get the tiramisu!
Only stayed one night, but was impressed at the comfort, and for under $100/night, I would stay again and recommend it.
Unique Quality: I LOVED the Aveda bath products! I also requested a "companion fish" and lava lamp, both of which I thought were just too cool (I know - I'm easily amused...)
When you check in, be sure to check out the "crayon dress" in the lobby. The hotel lounge is called "The Pink Slip", so a local artist made a pink slip dress out of crayons - until you get up close, you can't tell it's crayons!
We stayed for two days in late May, 2007. The Hotel Preston is a very nice hotel. Very comfortable accomodations, at fairly reasonable rates. Make sure you check on AAA rates, or even better rates with your Entertainment card! The hotel is very close to the airport, but we didn't hear the planes at all! The hotel is easily accessible from the main highway and it's easy to get to all the different areas of Nashville and back again.
The hotel continues to have construction ongoing in the front lobby area, but this doesn't in any way cause any problems. The rooms are spacious, very clean and comfortable.
The hotel restaurant is a hidden gem! Excellent food and service! Chef Danny makes some great dishes and is very personable to talk with! Highly recommend you eat there!

I just returned from a weekend stay at the Hotel Preston. The hotel staff is very professional. The service was great and the hotel staff was quite knowlegable. The highlight of our stay was the bed. The bed is extremely comfortable, they rival the Westin "heavenly bed."
I would definetly stay here again.
I have read good and bad reviews on The Hotel Preston. I think that expectations of people differ, but having stayed at the hotel in July of 2005, I can say that my wife and I had a good stay there. For the "Try Me" rate of $69.00 we received a corner suite with lots of room. We found that the hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. We didn't even get on the elevator and a maintainence man, of all things, helped us with our luggage, showed us to our room and gave us info on the hotel and the Nashville area. The hostess in the hotel restaurant was great and actually sat with us for awhile and gave us hints on the attractions and ways to get to them. The food was good, but a little pricey. We we're shuttled to the Grand Ole Opry and picked up from there, promptly. Sleeping in the beds at the hotel is almost worth the price of the stay. In my opinion, this hotel is a little above average than the typical hotel chain. I would stay there again and would recommend the Hotel Preston to anyone.
I was in town for a business trip. Had no clue about this place. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's an "older hotel converted to boutique", but the rooms are huge, the beds & pillows are super-comfy, and with the layout of the floorplan for the rooms, you don't get a lot of hallway traffic/noise.
Yes, it is surrounded by construction, but from the brief view of Nashville that I got -- there's a lot of construction going on in that area.
The amenities are nice -- great toiletries, Starbucks coffee!, and the robe was hanging on the back of the bathroom door.
As for the location -- we drove to several downtown places to eat, and it took about 15 minutes.
The bar isn't fancy, but they did have live entertainment each night we were there and there were TVs broadcasting the football games. It has a pool table, so it was a nice place to hang out.
I would defintely stay there again, especially for the price!
We recently stayed at the Preston on our way through Nashville. Thought we would give it a try and are glad we did. Even though it wasn't a true Boutique hotel , it does have some nice elements and misses the mark on others. Check-in staff was very nice & speedy. We found the hotel lobby a bit dated but with some nice furniture and art-work. At least some imagination and not the same ole hotel decor. Hallways & carpets were clean. Room was large and done in simple decor and felt fresh & clean and beds were very nice! Very comfortable with duvet/triple sheeting and lots of pillows, including some feather. Nice! Bathroom had lots of nice towels and very clean waffle weave shower curtain and a waffle weave robe on a hanger on the door, but otherwise the bathroom was dreary and I think that's where the Preston misses the mark. The paint job in the bathroom was a harsh shade of brown and was a really bad paint job over old wallpaper too. The counters were old looking formica and the nice toilitries were just placed on the counter where they should have been presented in a basket or at least atop a washcloth or something. But the tub/shower looked like it had new white tile and was clean. The towel rack should have been near the shower and not over the counter and some art work in the bath would have been nice. Details are what make a "Boutique" sing and that's just where the Preston doesn't measure up, but don't be too harsh...since the bed itself was crisp & clean and worth the $69.00 "try us" price all by itself! We stay in hotels an average of about 7-10 nights a month and we are very, very picky about cleanliness and I have to say we returned to the Preston on our way back through Nashville a week later just because I knew the beds & rooms were clean, but not for the ambiance. The construction is pretty bad but it was quiet in the hotel. You will have to drive to get to any restaurant, although I think there was a restaurant in the hotel. We had one drink in the bar which was 1970's depressing & dreary...but the prices were decent & the wait staff was nice & there was some fun live country music...not our style but my 83 yr. old mother loved it. Our 10 year old also loved the fish "George" that stayed in our room...an odd addition...but fun. I liked the simple classy Preston pencil on the desk...I like pencils more than pens. Bottom line... the nice clean & crisp euro-bed is the best feature and we would stay there again only for that.
I am not sure what to say about this place.
If you stroll the HP web site and then consider the name you would think this was a botique hotel. Considering this is an old property I thought like others of its kind, it was purchased rennovated and is now a clever and stylish hotel on the inside.
Those were my expectations. Greeting you is trendy alternative music outside - a nice first step, eveything after that went downhill.
Yes nice art in the lobby, but outside of that this hotel could have had Ramada on the outside and that would have been entirely appropriate for the inside.
Where were the flowers in the room that I saw on the web site? This place is marketed as if it has a cool vibe, but to my eyes it was pure vanilla on the inside and not even a creamy cool vanilla, just the standard hotel variety.
Nice Raddisson ice bucket on the desk!
That night there were some folks hanging out in the lobby perhaps like all of us who took the bait that there was a cool vibe here, all dressed up and willing but might as well be just another hotel.
On the positive side, beds and sheets were great and the place was reasonably clean.
I just felt like they promise some sense of style and alternative, but in reality I found little soul to it.
I wanted to like it - I really did, they just did not deliver.
Nothing wrong with staying there, just not as special as it would make itself out to be
Finance called mid-week and asked me to reserve a hotel in Nashville as a long weekend treat. Said that he wanted to stay in Nashville one night only and we would find a hotel on the way for the first night. Was so excited to get to Nashville and the Preston that we pushed through on the first day so we could spend 2 nights at the Preston. Our plan was to take in a show or two and do a little shopping but the only thing we wanted to do was stay at the hotel b/c of the great bed. We had a little bamboo in the room and enjoyed the robe in the bathroom. Even though it is an old building, the impression I got was that it was more suited for young, active people and not those trying to recreate the 1940's. Would absolutely stay at this hotel again--as a matter of fact I am getting ready to start planning another getaway within the next few weeks and this is where I am going to start.

I LOVED the Aveda bath products! I also requested a "companion fish" and lava lamp, both of which I thought were just too cool (I know - I'm easily amused...)
