by tpayne14

GOING TO NASHVILLE THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. WE HAVE THREE CHILDREN GOING TO MALL ON DAY MAYBE SCIENCE PLACE BUT IS TAKING THEM TO VIEW DOWNTOWN A WASTE OF TIME HOW IS THE ATMOSPHERE DURING THE DAY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO VISIT BEFORE A CERTAIN TIME.MY OLDEST REALLY LIKES MUSIC WOULD LIKE FOR HER TO HEAR A LITTLE.

Downtown is not a waste of time. This is one of the cleanest cities I have ever been to. All the areas of "downtown" that I walked seemed to be very safe. There are many choices when it comes to music. Your only limitation will be in the evenings much of the music scene is happening in the bars. Some are more family oriented with restaurants.
Of course I would strongly suggest finding out who is playing the Ryman Auditorium or the Grand Ol' Oprey while you are there.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is downtown, so you might as well wander on down to Second St. It's mostly a night scene but there are some things to see and do during the day...shops, some music places (like the Wildhorse Salon).

YES, Take them Downtown! Two great places to take the kids are Dixieland Delights on Broadway & 3rd(?) and The Wildhorse Saloon on Second. At Dixieland Delights grab an ice cream or other sweet and sit inside listening to the live music while you eat - same thing as going into the honkey-tonks minus the alcohol. At the Wildhorse sit down for dinner/lunch, head up to the 3rd floor & play some pool, check out the horses hanging from the ceiling, and have fun with the kids learning a new dance or two. As long as they're accompanied by an adult, kids are more than welcome at the Wildhorse. Also, enjoy a tour of the Ryman - check out the Nashville Visitors Center for discount coupons there and to the Hall of Fame. The website is listed on my Nashville page. The kids will also love walking through the Opryland Hotel. All the Christmas lights are up now. Park at the Opry Mills Mall (to avoid paying to park) down by the theatre & follow the path starting at the Grand Ole' Opry House over to the Hotel It's just georgous! Have fun!

Travel Tips for Nashville

bike trails in Nashville area

by garypinson

There are three decent mountain bike trails in the Nashville area. I think the best is Lock 4 Trails in Gallatin, about 25 miles NE of Nasvhillle.

The next is Bowie Nature Trails in Fairview, Tn. about 25 miles west of Nashville.

Third is the Hamilton Creek Traills on Priest Lake in Nashville. The trails are old and worn but good if you like rocky, rooty surfaces.

Good Ole Southern Restaurant!

by countryfan1223 about Cock of the Walk

Cock of the Walk has 2 levels and is located on Music Valley Drive & a good ole southern restaurant with the hospitality to go with it. The menu is only one page with fried or broiled dinner selections but you get alot of food. The selections are uner $13 and include: Catfish, Shrimp or Chicken served on tin plates or there is a sample if you want to try all 3. Each meal comes with skillet corn bread which the server will flip up in the air in front of you! Most of them are caught! Also included are hushpuppies, french fries, cole slaw & pickled onions with each meal. These onions are delicious! Beverages get served in tin cups & the utensils are in a tin bucket on the table. You do not need reservations and they are opened every evening. We have always had great service & great food. Downstairs is a huge rocking chair & the tables & chairs are all wooden. Pickled onions- so tasty
Skillet corn bread- they flip it right in front of you

Al Fresco Dining in East End

by TravellerMel about Batter'd and Fried Boston Seafood House

Adorable casual restaurant - with one of the WORST names! - in Nashville's East End. We sat outside under the triangle tarps. The menu is eclectic - mostly seafood, but also sushi, pasta, and burgers. Wait staff was friendly, but not pushy. We really enjoyed the ambiance and the food - I expect I'll be returning. We each had the soup and house salad - I had the chicken chili, which was delicious, and the strawberry kiwi fruit vinaigrette dressing which was divine. My companion had the New England Clam Chowder, which was tasty, and the chipotle ranch dressing, which she enjoyed. We split a large order of fried scallops and fries, which was so large, I took some home for lunch tomorrow. All of that, plus two beers, came to about $43, plus tip. Not too bad, and the food was good!

A Place of Remembrance

by terps94

Located across from the State Capitol is War memorial where they have exhibit about the sacrifice of Tennesse's citizen on different conflicts that our country have been involved. The Plaza is wide open where it's nice to just sit around and just relax and enjoy your surroundings. In and around the plaza they have different monument to honor those who serve in the service. Inside there is an exhibit which is free but donations aree welcome.
