2 good family Inns in peaceful Townsend
When we go to the Great Smokey Mountains, we usually like to spend at least one day at Cades Cove and go hiking or biking on the scenic loop road. (Wed's and Saturday mornings until 10:00 the road is closed to cars). Townsend is the most convenient town to this end of the national park. We have stayed at both the Comfort Inn and the Best Western.
Both are clean and comfortable and provide simple self serve breakfasts (pasties, waffles etc). Both are similar. The Comfort Inn is newer. I would stay at which ever had the best rate. The Website provided below is for the County visitor information center and lists all accomodations, special events etc. Unlike Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, Townsend is more rustic. I like the comparitive peace and quiet of Townsend. A bike path runs along the front of the road. Both motels are located near the visitors center. Both are close to Cades Cove in the park and a river that is perfect for tube floating on a hot summer afternoon. Expect to pay about $100 per night or less after the busy season.
