The weather is what I miss the most. Amarillo averages more days of sunshine than almost any place in the US. The
winters are mild with just enough snow to cover the ground
and usually starts to melt within 24 hours of stopping. But the spring, summer and fall are the best. Average summer temp. is in the middle 90's and a yearly rainfall is under 30 inches a year. But the sunsets are what i really miss.
they are breathtaking and an artists dream. We're famous for them. The final scene in the last INDIANA JONES movie
(where they ride off into the sunset) was filmed outside of
Amarillo.

"Palo Duro Canyon"
I set out from Austin, Texas with no real plan of where I'd go and what I'd do once I got there.
After 8 hours of driving, I stopped for the night in Amarillo. (Texas is a very big state!)
The tour book said that Palo Duro Canyon was close by, and I'd never seen a canyon of any kind. After driving for about an hour, it took my breath away.
Palo Duro means "hard wood."
Also worth the trip is the Panhandle Plains Museum on the campus of West Texas A&M University. It's a gem of a museum.

A: "There's a small nightclub area Downtown along Taylor Street. Maybe 4 to 5 clubs open on the weekends. That's about it for the city though."
