Why Amarillo is famous...
This huge steel cross is 190 feet tall and can be seen up to 20 miles away. It lights up at night and is located on the side of I-40 in Groom, TX, approximately 40miles east of Amarillo. It is known as the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere.

Truth be told, Amarillo is more likely going to be a place where travellers pass through rather than the intended destination. Everyone is coming from or going somewhere else. As the largest city in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo is in the center of what most people figure is a dusty place in the middle of nowhere. This is an agricultural region amidst the plains of Texas. Despite what you may have heard about Amarillo or this region of the state, there are some interesting places in and around here. If you do happen to be passing through this region, perhaps you might stop for a visit.
