Roomy Southern Comfort

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 19, 2009

This charming, historic house is a wonderful place to stay while in Austin. Why pay high prices for cookie-cutter hotels when you can be cosy in this lovely setting? We stayed in the William Adams Suite. It has a big private bath with a comfortable soaking tub and a shower. The bed is a huge four-poster king-sized bed that was very comfortable. Attached to the bedroom is a huge enclosed porch with wicker furniture and a sofa which folds out into another bed. The porch door can be closed off, so if someone likes to get up early and enjoy the sunrise and the birds singing, they can go out on the porch and close the door to the bedroom and not disturb the late sleeper. There is a radio, but no TV in the suite, but tv is available in the common room downstairs.

Breakfasts were wonderful. They make their own granola which was delicious with yogurt and fruit and is available daily along with eggs and toast. A big sit-down breakfast is served on the weekends. The people who run the B&B are warm and friendly.

Unique Quality: The house is in a historic part of Austin. It is convenient to UT and downtown. From the B&B you can walk a block to a grocery store, bakery, coffee shop and a couple of restaurants.

The only downside was the bad wifi connection for my husband's computer. He needed to attend to business and e-mails and was having trouble staying connected. I suppose we could have walked down to the coffee shop and been connected, though.

No children or pets allowed.
