Austin just built an international airport (Austin-Bergstrom International). So you can get to Austin from anywhere in the world. You can take a cab from the airport into the city. It really shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to get anywhere in Austin. You can basically choose any mode of transportation to get around in Austin. If you choose to rent a car (or have your own), Austin drivers are very friendly, and traffic is minimal. To get the most out of Austin, I recommend having a car. The bus system is pretty good and very cheap. If you are a student, you ride for free, and there are bus routes that take you directly to the UT Campus. Biking is popular in Austin, and there are bike lanes on most of the major roads. If you are staying in downtown or around campus, you can see a lot of Austin on bike.
