Tribute to Texas Schoolchildren
by Stephen-KarenConn
This monument on the grounds of the Texas Capitol in Austin depicts six children on a school field trip to the Capitol. School children in more than 600 Texas schools raised the funds necessary to complete the statues. The life-sized bronze figures, installed at ground level, are the work of sculptor Lawrence Ludtke.
Tribute to Texas Children was dedicated in June 1998. It is said to be the only monument of it's type in the United States.

U.T.

Oh, you hadn't heard? The University of Texas is here, they have all kinds of sports going on. Don't forget to go down to the "Drag" (Guadalupe between 26th-MLK) to stock up on all things "burnt orange": Shirt, cap, shorts, sweats, water bottle, socks, shoes, underwear, tatoo, hair, cow... I'm sure I'm missing alot of things.
Then, once you're properly geared-up, you can say things like; "Woooo!" and "You-Tee!" and "Hook-em-horns!!!" just remember not to say or do anything original, this is about conformity dammit!

Mid-century haven
by virtualling about Room Service Vintage
If you're into mid-century, you will love this place. I liked that the items in the store were well maintained and it wasn't like a junk store like some I've been to. You can try on the clothes and shoes. Look at the photos to get an idea of the kind of things sold here. There are other vintage stores along this street, so take your time to shop around a little.
Pricing: Some things cost a lot but if you're a collector, I don't suppose you'll mind paying so much for a piece of vintage chair or jewelery. It is not a very large store, but it has a lot of interesting items. Also a good walk-through on a weekend.
Other items - Match box/ Records/ Rolling Stone Magazines/ Mugs/ Curtains/ Fabrics/ Furniture/ Clocks/ Posters/ Kitchen appliances/ Vase/ Radio/ Rugs/ Toys/ Telephone/ Ashtrays
