Business Trip to Austin

by bluespring

I will be coming to Austin on a business trip and will be staying in the west.

I would like to take this opportunity to tour around in Austin.

I found out that there are no nearby routes to the downtown or anywhere.

And I am afraid the cab fare will be very expensive if I were to take a cab.

Any brilliant idea where I can go to downtown at the most cheapest way.

When you say you are staying in the west...you mean west Austin, or west of Austin?

Also, when you say there are no nearby routes to the downtown or anywhere...do you mean bus routes?

Please clarify.

If you could give us a hotel name or general location of where exactly you will be staying, we may can help.

However, I have to say, when traveling in Texas, sometimes renting a car is the easiest and cheapest way to go.

Sorry I should be more specific.

I am staying in an apartment near southwest parkway. and I don't think they have any buses there.

I would like to rent a car too, but too bad I don’t drive.

Is there a cheaper way where I can take a cab to and from there, take the buses?

Appreciate your help.

hmmmm...

You're right, there's only a "flyer" (171)out to that area. Looks like it runs on weekdays for business people - only certain times.

Best bet is probably a cab. Looks like it will run you about $17.50 one way.

Sorry about that. Austin is pretty spread out.

Once you get to the downtown area, I believe there is free transportation around...we usually just walk.

Wish I had a better answer for you!

The bats.....i almost forgot about the bats!!! the Congress street bridge is so cool...

bridge man....I personally like mixing bubbles with bats, but you have to acquire
a taste for that!!!!

Water - a must in Texas

by carlrea

Cover up as it can get a trifle hot in Austin and Texas in general maybe think about having some sort of cap or hat and a shirt - if you dont you'll fry to a crisp! A camera at the very least as it is so beautiful Sun screen - if you are a little sensitive If you are going any sort of distance out in the country then i would take plenty of water i cannot emphesize this more strongly!!!

SubNatural

Sub Natural Live at Elysium, Austin, Texas

Industrial/Rock/Metal. A smashing neurotic blend of dark rock, intricate metal, and pounding beats - SubNatural took over the Elysium on friday April 27, 2007 as they opened for Tungsten Coil. I'm not much of a metal fan, but it was an enjoyable show. Frontman Ritch N is lead with great lyrics and musical talent; Guitarist Stephen Vanpelt and Bassist Nick Grubbs make the action happen, and percussionist Riggz Wade gives the bands sound just what it needs. Blended together with the great venue of Elysium, it was a pretty good show. 3 stars out of 5.

This little japanese store has a little bit of everything. Snacks, pancake flour, frozen meat & fish, calrose rice, wine, tea sets, vegetable cutters, chopsticks, rectangular tamago pan... but bento sets.
The owner is very friendly. I usually ring her up to check if she has a certain item I want before I head over to the store.

Incredibly Strange Movies

by challenger about Alamo Draft House

Austin is not only a great haunt for musicians, but also a thriving centre of filmmakers: Roberto “Desperado” Rodriguez as well as Richard “Slackers” Linklater are some of the local talent. Films like John Travolta’s “Michael” or “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” were all shot in Austin. Harry Knowles from Ain’t It Cool fame is an Austin resident, and so is Sandra Bullock.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Austin also houses one of the whackiest cinemas there is: The Alamo Draft House is a haven for fans of the bizarre, the weird and eclectic. Whether you’re into Hongkong movies, gore, Eurotrash… You name it, they got it on a nightly changing schedule. Occasionally they even run an entire 24-hour movie marathon!

Food and drink is also served, so what more do you need?
