For the best lunch deal in town for romance with a wonderful buffet, go to the Clay Pit Indian restuarant. For $6.95 you get an incredible lunch buffet. You might also want to try Romeo's on Barton Spring Road.

If you have an afternoon during the week, a picnic at City Park is always romantic. Weekends are too crowded. During the week you can have a private area right on the water shaded by huge trees.

You could go to one of the Magnolia Cafes for lunch and then go to the Zilker Botanical Gardens. Magnolia Cafe is fairly inexpensive and entrance into the Botanical Gardens is free.

The SOCO area is fun to explore (South Congress) if you like funky shops, vintage clothing, antiques. There are quite a few restaurants in this area, including Guero's (texmex), El Sol y la Luna, and others. The Continental Club is across the street, which is a great live music venue. They've been having free happy hour shows on Tues & Wed, I think. Check on their website for calendar and details.
Another idea: a trek up to Mount Bonnell (3900 Mount Bonnell Rd) is always a nice afternoon or early evening date. Or a stroll along the Town Lake Hike 'n Bike trail, across the new pedestrian bridge at South Lamar, ending your walk at the exit point at Barton Springs Road where you can walk a ways and pick from Austin's "restaurant row" ... my favorite is Shady Grove -- eat under the shade of wonderfully large pecan trees. thursday nights in the spring & summer catch a free live music show.
Travel Tips for Austin

Keep Austin Weird!
by ATXtraveler
One of the things that makes Austin such a unique place to call home is the slogan that has been accepted by just about every citizen... Keep Austin Weird. In a collaboration of all the unique members of our community, where you can see a politician next to a high tech computer geek next to a UT student next to a hippy, Keep Austin Weird is more than just a slogan, its a state of mind.
This website will definitely give you a taste of many of the things Austin has to offer!
Zilfer Botanical Garden
by dame2
Zilfer Botanical garden is very much like the other botanical gardens. It has flowers, bamboo, and in general pretty landscaping. I reccomend going for everyone except disabled people. Children will like the dinosaurs. Couples wil like the romantic atmosphere. Anyone should be able to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and beauty of the gardens.
You can get there by bus, but I reccomend driving if you can.
Skyline and TownLake
by ATXtraveler
If you are headed to Austin, you need to now that Austin lies on the bank of the Lower Colorado River, which also contains a chain of 7 lakes. There are three lakes of significant importance, Travis, Austin, and Town Lake. In this picture you will see Town Lake, which runs along downtown. If you venture off to Zilker Park, and check out the hike and bike trail, you will be able to enjoy this beautiful view!
6th Street
by frankcanfly
If you go to Austin without visiting 6th street at night, you haven't been to Austin.
Get out and see some of the live music, enjoy the free spirited mood on the streets and in the clubs. The people are friendly. The sun will come up before you know it.....
