Places to Stay for Austin City Limits

by JBER

Hi All,

Would appreciate any guidance on places to stay for Austin City Limits in September. Looking for something with easy access to the festival.

Best,
Jamey

One of the best motels in the world is the Austin Motel. You'll have to walk a little bit, but not too far. Trust me on this - it will be the most happening scene in town.

There aren't any hotels near the park and the free shuttle pick-up is located at 4th and Guadalupe. It would be a hike from the Austin Motel but it is one of the hot spots in Austin. The San Jose Hotel http://www.sanjosehotel.com/ is located close to the Austin Motel. It is also one of the hot spots in Austin. It draws a big crowd for happy hours and on Friday/Saturday nights. Both of these places are located on the south side of the river (down town proper is on the north side).

You will want to stay somewhere close to the downtown area. There are several hotels to chose from, but a lot of them are full at this point. Go to www.austintexas.org to see some hotels that are offering hotel deals during ACL, there is an ACL link on the front page. You can also search the website under hotels to see a listing of the hotels in the downtown area. Like the other person said, the shuttle is downtown at Republic square park on 4th street, so any hotel in the downtown area should be pretty close. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that both the San Jose Hotel and Austin Motel have been sold out for months, those hotels are very popular. But, you can still get rooms at some of the other ones. Ejoy the festival!

I was also going to recommend Austin Motel and Hotel San Jose on S. Congress. Zilker is maybe a little over a mile away from those hotels. I used to live on S. Congress, and my roommate walked from our old apartment to Zilker last year and said it wasn't too bad. If you get too tired at the end of the day, it's a really cheap cab ride back to the hotel, too.

As others have said, there is a shuttle service from downtown. It shouldn't be an issue getting to the shuttle from any of those hotels (Hilton, Radisson, etc.).

Travel Tips for Austin

Bring Your Laptop!

by richnewman

With tons of sites that tell you what is going on in town, you should definitely bring your laptop. If you go to this website: http://auscillate.com/wireless/
you will find a huge list of establishments that offer free wireless internet! You can use the internet to touch base with general info sites like:
www.austin360.com
www.austinchronicle.com When I am gone from Austin, I miss the numerous beer gardens that offer so many choices of places to enjoy the laid back lifestyle of this city. Usually they have the best food, too. I always miss the friendly atmostphere, great music, and just drinking a beer in the cool Austin night.

Austin Hippies

by butterfly_girl

If you come to Austin, you will soon realize that Austin is not like the rest of Texas. It is a liberal oasis and filled with free thinking, hippies, nature lovers and peace seekers. The perfect thing about Austin is that it is a city that is accepting of everyone. It is a place where all types of people can live in harmony.

well..that's what the sign reads! We were driving back from Pedernales Falls National Park...and ran into this place. If you want to experience a hole in the wall...good ole fashioned eating with nothing-beats-true-texan hospitality...then this a great stop.

Not the healthiest food...obviously...but fun and worth a stop.

A Little Piece of Zen

Beautiful Casa De Luz is one of my favorite spots in Austin. There is a feeling of calm and serenity as soon as you walk through the gates...for an unusual dining experience, a yoga class, bellydancing and more, this is the place to go. Check out their website for upcoming events or sign up with their weekly newsletter.

Add a Little Culture to your Nightlife

by saraheg77 about Hyde Park Theatre

I got to see the theater's production of Much Ado About Nothing and was pleasantly surprised by their performance! I have seen Much Ado About Nothing in Shakespeare's hometown theater in Stratford-upon-Avon, so was wondering if I would be disappointed, but Shakespeare's play is timeless and always great! The theater was very small and the set was not impressive, but the actors did a great job! I look forward to seeing some other productions at the theater! The tickets were $15 for this show and seemed like a good value. I wore a skirt, but it looked like pretty much anything goes!
