kayaking Reimers Ranch Park
by Plummer
I was wondering if there was a lot of boat traffic or is this a place
for a relaxing day of kayaking and taking pictures?
Thanks
Plummer

Boat traffic can get a little thick certain times of the year. When the white bass are running, Reimers Ranch is one of the hot spots. Weekdays of course would have less traffic.
I don't know if your from the Austin area since you haven't filled in any info about your location, but there are plenty of rivers/creeks that are not crowded and are great for photos and kayaking.

Hello, yes, like Matt said, Reimers can get crowded during white bass season, but other times you can have it almost to yourself. It is really worth a day trip out there to check it out. You can mountain bike, climb, Kayak, fish. There are some motor boats that are out there, but it's not bad. It's really pretty. I have even been out kayaking during the white bass run and I still had some wide open water to myself. Go out there and check it out, it's cool!
Travel Tips for Austin
Agave
by scott_txguy
These are agave plants. Also called "century plants" because supposedly they bloom only once a century. When they do bloom they grow a large stalk then it flowers. After a while then plant dies.
In mexico they are grown on huge farms, the Mexicans cut down the stalk before it has flowered and use the resulting juice to make tequila. This is good, except cutting down so many before they flower is causing the bees that pollinate them to go extinct, so eventually there may be no more agave. Oh well.
Manchaca Lane or Manshack Lane?
by kd_baby
OK,
There is some confusion about the whole issue about how to pronounce Manchaca Lane. All the locals say "Manshack" Lane and don't think twice about it. I wondered for quite a long time why people say it that way instead of how it would be said in Spanish....Manchaca.
Well, allow me end the confusion. Long story short, the street should be pronounced "Manshack" Lane, and the elementary school (which happens to be on Manchaca Lane, and is spelled "Menchaca") is pronounced in the Spanish manner...Manchaca.
So yes, "Manshack" Lane is Manchaca Lane., and Menchaca Elementary School is pronounced "Manchaca" Elementary School.
Clear as mud? :-)
Mount Bonnel
by GUYON
Opened in the 1850s, the park is the oldest tourist attraxtion of Austin.
The legend tells if a couple climbs the 100 stairs to the top of Mount Bonnel once they fall in love, twice they will become engaged, and after three times, they surely get married.
The ride from Downtown lasts 15/20 min according to the traffic and the lost time to search.
There is a parking near the top and a stair or a short trail to reach the top which overhangs the Townlake and the wealthy mansions built on the banks.
