Hey Danielle:

There is a couple I know of, the links are below: I haven't really used either, but craigslist really seems to be an active community.

Best wishes,

An urban discussion forum just started up in March, Austin Forum. It's just starting to pick up some activity, but it should become pretty active over the next few months. The url is http://www.austinforum.net . It's primary focus is urban issues and urban development, but it includes all aspects of Austin city and metro. Hope to see ya there :)

Travel Tips for Austin

Go swimming at Barton Springs,...

by zypher

Go swimming at Barton Springs, a three acre, underground-spring-fed pool, located in the heart of Zilker Park's 358 acres of beauty in the near-downtown area.

If it's too crowded, try Deep Eddy Municipal Pool at 401 Deep Eddy Drive. It's also spring-fed.

Austin Longhorns Football

Saturdays in the Fall are dominated by the Burnt Orange that fills the city like a plague!

I joke about the plague because I went to Baylor, one of UT's rivals... and there is no love lost here.

Having said that, UT always has a very respectable team every year, and one day they might actually win an important game! Bring your burnt orange!

McKinney Falls State Park -...

McKinney Falls State Park - Hike Loop - I love loop trails, but I was sad to find out that this one was paved a lot of the way. It was relatively empty, however, and quite peaceful. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I was excited to see all the cacti!

Latin Dancing!

by lamsterz about Copa's

Located right off South Congress close the Capitol, this place is incredible, as it has great Salsa dancing along with other Latin beats, such as Mambo. Upstairs is another smaller bar where one can take Tango lessons and then practice their moves. The atmosphere is brilliant and the music is great. The dancers range from experts to beginner's, always open-minded. As long as you are willing to ask, they most likely will oblige at least one dance.

Check their calenders for lessons. Upscale dancing attire, such as a button shirt and jeans/pants for men and generally a skirt for women with possible heels. I would highly advise against sneakers.

Acoustic Music Scene

by butterfly_girl about Cactus Cafe

For a intimate spot to watch acoustic singer/songwriters and bands, the Cactus Cafe is a must see. This place showcases top musicians both locally and internationally. The club is pretty small which makes it great to see music, but also can be hard to find a good spot to sit. Get there early for a good spot to sit.
Suzanne Vega and Ani DiFranco are amongst some of the great singer/songwriters that have played here. Casual
