Accomodation rental for about 5 nights with good rates
by virtualling
Hi all, need help in looking for a place to stay in Austin, preferably close to the Convention Centre. Price range, less than $100 per night.
I'm looking at options aside from motels, inn and hotels like Extended Stay. Any good suggestions?
Would consider time sharing places if the requirements fit.
Thanks!

You can do the Homestead suites for $89 a night Homestead Studio Suites
507 S. First St.Austin, TX 78704, Telephone: 512-476-1818. They are across the river from the convention center, so you can either walk there (10-15 minute walk) or take a free bus called the Dillo. Or you can stay at the Austin Motel 1220 S. Congress Ave., Austin, Texas 78704 • 512.441.1157, which is in a *great* location, walking distance to shops and restaurants, with single rooms starting at $65 a night and go up from there, they are about 1 1/2 miles from the convention center, and again you could take the free dillo bus from there too, or just get a nice walk in. So, hopefully that helps you. Enjoy your trip!
Travel Tips for Austin
Go to the SXSW Music...
by bottleofdoom
Go to the SXSW Music Conference. I had the best time of my life & it actually changed
my life forever. I saw so many great bands & right up close...making the experience
much more personal & intimate. Seeing Patti Smith for the first time at the free concert in Waterloo Park. It was
a transcendental experience!! Also, my favorite rock club, The Red Eyed Fly. I saw
the best rock bands here & of course, Emo's.
Good Ole Boy culture comes to...
by Lori_K
Good Ole Boy culture comes to mind... but so does total individualism. Texas is culture, rich and deep. But, Austin is one strange place. Amid cowboy-booted statesmen you may find some Austinites who don't seem to know what state they are in... or you may run into a Hollywood movie star. Just relax and go with the flow.
Reimers Ranch....outdoor fun!
by butterfly_girl
For a real nature experience...you gotta check out Milton Reimer's Ranch, now a Travis County Park. This is an off the beaten path tip and you have to be willing to drive about 1 hour from Austin and down a dirt road for this one...but at the end of the road, you will end up being on a long stretch of beautiful Pedernales river. This is a great spot for kayaking, fishing, hiking and climbing. Climbers and fishermen *love* this spot. The movie "Alamo" was filmed near here. A great spot for a daytrip. Pay $8.00 per car and enjoy your day!
From Town Lake, take Mopac south and turn right onto southwest Parkway. At dead end, turn right onto highway 71. Turn left onto Ranch road 3238 (Hamilton's Pool road). Follow the road several miles, then one mile after 2nd crossing, turn right at Reimer's Ranch sign. On dirt road, stay left to a gate. Pay small admission fee at house. You need to leave before the Reimers close the gate at sun down.
Check out the capitol building...
by bruingirl
Check out the capitol building and the park. It's a nice way to spend a warm afternoon. The capitol building is home to the governor, George W. Bush and all the state officials. You could check out the history of Austin in this building too. The park that surrounds it overlooks the rest of the city (somewhat) and is a nice place to have a picnic.
Just about everything
by Matt420 about Warehouse district & 6th St.
Austin claims to have more live music on any given night than any other city in the US.
The majority of the bars, night clubs, ice houses and shot bars are located in the Warehouse district or along 6th street.
It doesn't matter if your looking for blue grass, raggae or hard core punk. You can find it all. The dress code varies from location to location, but the majority will require shoes and a shirt. Jeans or shorts will get you in just about anywhere. There are night clubs that do require you to be dressed in "club ware".
