t-shirt

does the Austin resturant Chuy's sell a t-shirt that says "keep austin weird" ?
Re: t-shirt
by straveler
I saw this t-shirt when in Austin last year, but not at Chuy's restaurant.
Re: t-shirt

I haven't seen them at Chuy's, but you can get them all over town. Most gift shops on 6th St. and on the drag on Guadalupe St. will have them. You can also get then at a local bar called Opal Divines.

Chuy's did in fact have this shirt a few years ago, but I have not been in recently to see if it is still in stock. You can also pick up this shirt on 6th Street at the visitor's information center. The sister shirt to this cult classic is a shirt that says, "Make Austin Normal"

I'm pretty sure that I saw a shirt like that at Chuy's. You can call 1-800-hey-chuy and ask for extension 49 or 54 to get Chuy's shirt and hat department. And like others have said you can get those shirts all around 6th street too.

They do, I just saw one there a week ago. But you can get one of those shirts just about anywhere.

Travel Tips for Austin
Austin Children's Museum
by ATXtraveler
One of the charities that my boss Michael Dell dedicates alot of time and effort to is the Austin Children's Museum, which was built in 1983 as a "museum without walls" and dedicated by teachers, educators, and other citizens of the Austin community as a place for children to learn and develop.
In 1997, thanks to a generous donation, the Dell Discovery Center was added to the museum, at a price tag of just about $5 Million dollars. 201 Colorado St.

Eeyore's Birthday Party
by ATXtraveler
Remember the cartoon Winnie the Pooh... which featured the sad donkey Eeyore... who was always gloomy because he never had his own birthday party?
Never fear cartoon fans.... thanks to the hippy population in Austin, Eeyore has not been sad since 1963!
Thats when the commune of hippies in Austin originated "Eeyore's Birthday Celebration in Austin, TX at Pease Park. It occurs every April, and is a celebration that is designed for children in the morning... but for adults in the afternoon!
You will see the crowd dramatically turn to herbally charged drum circles, and dancing in costumes that are not the best thing for your children to see... but in the morning, it is more like a carnival for them!
And they say Austin is weird.... Stonehenge II
by Jefie
Who knew there was a bit of England smack in the middle of the Texas Hill Country?! As you follow the directions given below and drive further and further into the country side, you'll hardly believe your eyes when you'll stumble upon this rather formidable Stonehenge replica. Inspired by a slab of limestone somewhat similar to the British Stonehenge altar, Al Shepperd and Doug Hill went about to build this 2/3 replica of the original located in Salisbury, England, and threw in a couple of Easter Island statues for good measure. A truly unique attraction!
Directions:
Take Interstate 10 to about 5 miles north of Kerrville.
Take Exit 501 and head south on Goat Creek Road (Ranch Road 1338).
After about 2 miles, turn right onto Goat Creek Cutoff Road.
Turn right onto State Route 27.
Bear left onto State Route 39.
Turn right onto Ranch Road 1340.
Follow the bend and it will be on your left.
Umlauf Sculpture Garden
by ATXtraveler
Well, in Egypt, I learned that the Pharoahs believed that hippos were the root of all evil, and that the heiroglyphics depicted hippos as evil characters... but I do not believe they are considered the same thing at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.
If you like peaceful, serene walks in nature, you will love this place.
The Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum is a non-profit organization founded around the work of American sculptor Charles Umlauf. Our work is dedicated to providing educational experiences that encourage the understanding and appreciation of sculpture.
In 1985, Charles and Angeline Umlauf gave their home, studio, and 168 pieces of Umlauf sculpture to the City of Austin. Six years later, in 1991, a new museum was built on adjoining city property with private funds raised under the leadership of Austin arts patron Roberta Crenshaw.
Austin's Infamous 6th Street
by ATXtraveler about 6th St. Bar District, Austin Texas
It is almost impossible to interview a 18-30 yr old person who has visited Austin, TX and not have 6th St. mentioned at least one time in their recollection of their time here.
That is a true testament to everything that is available to a tourist here on 6th.
From Jazz Bars, to pubs, to dance and night clubs... you can get what you want at a great price! Daily drink specials, free entrance, and lots of street vendors make for a great night!
The site listed below is a great resource to learn what is going on! This is Austin... you will see cowboy boots, flip flops, and also tuxedos... its just a matter of who is there... there is no dress "code" though.
