Camping in Big Bend National Park
There are a number of camping areas in Big Bend National Park. Three, Chisos Basin, Rio Grande Village, and Cottonwood are developed areas. There are also a number of backcountry camping areas if solitude is more important to you than ammenities. I did not camp here; just wanted to let you know what is available.
Unique Quality: This campground affords great views of the Chisos Mountains and is near the trailhead of a number of nice hiking trails.

A Campground in Chisos Basin
Chisos Basin Campground is at a 5,600 foot altitude, and has 63 campsites in a beautiful rugged, mountain setting. 26 of these campsites may be reserved from November 15 to April 15. You may call or make reservations online. Although there are no hookups; flush toilets, running water, grills, and picnic tales are available. The sites are quite small, and trailers over 20’ and RV’s over 24’ are not recommended in this campground. Be aware that you must also follow a narrow, winding road to reach the basin area, and the road into the campground is at a 15 percent grade.
Unique Quality: This campground is close to a number of beautiful hiking trails. It is also close to the restaurant if you would like to eat out while you are there.

Chisos Basin Cottages
You have to reserve 2 years in advance... good luck!! One in particular is really hard to get because it is extremely popular with its view on the Chisos "window".
2003: $84 per day per cottage.
Great location at the beginning of most Chisos Mountain trails!
I have not been to any of the Chisos cottages.

Chisos Basin Motel
Great location at the beginning of most Chisos Mountain trails!
2003: $76 for 2 persons in one room
I have not been to the Chisos motel.
