Staying in the Park

The only lodging inside the park is the Chisos Mountains Lodge located in the Chisos Basin at the end of Chisos Basin Road. All 72 non-smoking rooms are conveniently located near food service, a convenience store, gift shop, trail heads and other guest services. I did not stay here just wanted to let you know what is available. Prices range from $110 to about $145.

Unique Quality: Great views.

Chisos Mountain Lodge

The Chisos Mountain Lodge is operated by the park concessionaire and is located in the beautiful Chisos Basin. Lying at a 5,500 foot elevation you will be surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The lodge has 72 rooms, a gift shop, and a restaurant. The rooms to choose from are motel type as in my photo, or stone cottages built by the CCC. I would recommend making reservations in advance, as this is the only non camping accommodation in the park, and the park is too remote to conveniently stay anywhere other than inside the park itself.

Unique Quality: There are many beautiful hiking tails and views nearby. There is a restaurant at the Lodge that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Big Bend's Best Campground

This is a great campground situated in the middle of Big Bend NP surrounded by the beautiful Chisos Mountains. There are 65 nice sites.

Unique Quality: The Chisos Basin campground is located in the middle of the park so it's a great place to start your day. Some of the best hikes like Emory Peak or The Window trail start right here. You might even see pack of javelinas looking for food or a deer passing by !

Don't forget to check out the parks' visitors center and store nearby. Prices at the store are very reasonable, and they accept credit cards.

This campground has clean bathroom facilities with running water and electric plug-ins. Each site has it's own food locker and grill.
Also don't forget to watch the night sky on a clear night, the starry skies will surely take your breath away.

The Only Restaurant Within the Park

by KimberlyAnn about Chisos Mountain Lodge Restaurant

The Chisos Mountain Lodge Restaurant opens at 7:00 A.M. and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you are in a hurry to head out in the morning ask about their breakfast in a box that you can take with you. We ate lunch there twice, when we drove up to Chisos Basin for hiking. We were surprised to find that the food was quite good. My husband described his lunches as a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. I had a tuna fish salad sandwich on a croissant with potato chips on the side both times. My husband had a burrito with refried beans, salsa, and guacamole the fist time. The second time he had a chicken fried steak. He thought both lunches were quite good.
