Dallas vacation

by tim&dawnintheUK

My wife & I are in Dallas [ Based in Plano to be exact ] for the last week of October and we were wondering;

What kind of weather can we expect?? Should we bring shorts & t's or woolies!!

What is there for a couple of 40-somethings to do in the evening??

What are public transport links like [ especially around Plano as, being Brits, we like to have a drink or two which precludes the use of our rental car - Taxi recommendations particularly welcome!!

Hi!

Take a look at www.dart.org--this is the Dallas Area Rapid Transit website. Buses and trains run between Dallas and Plano, and buses run within Plano. Plenty of taxis as well.

Don't know alot about things to do in Plano, but Plano is a large city. Has a reputation for being home to people with fairly high incomes. Should be quite a few restaurants and bars to choose from.

You should definitely go down to Dallas! The West End is a local tourist hot spot, but all over Dallas there are many many many restaurants, bars, places to see/hear local bands (if you are into music), shopping malls/shopping centers, museums, art & antique galleries, bookstores, etc. No matter what your budget is, you will find many things to do/see/hear/taste.

For sports, Dallas Cowboy football, local college football, maybe the Dallas Stars will already be playing hockey?

Anyway, go online and look at http://www.visitdallas-fortworth.com/
Also look at http://www.dallascvb.com/visitors/
And, last but not least...http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g55711-Dallas_Texas-Vacations.html

As far as the weather goes, this is Texas where the weather can change quickly in the autumn! The high temperatures could be anywhere between the 60s to the 90s while you're here. The low temperatures could be anywhere between the 40s to the 70s. The day may start warm and end up chilly because we had a cold front come through. Some days here, you just don't know what to wear! I would suggest that you plan on layering--maybe jeans/shorts and a t-shirt, with a sweater or hoodie over that to start/end the day.

Anyway, hope you have a wonderful trip and that you enjoy Texas and Dallas!!

Thank you for your time & effort in your detailed reply. we will be sure to check out the websites you mention and have a good look around Dallas - shame the Cowboys have no game while we are over but c'est la vie!!

Travel Tips for Dallas

This is one of our major...

by Gypsy_King

This is one of our major highways(635) which has 5 driving lanes. The fast lane near the middle is called the HOV(High Occupancy Vehicle) lane, in which you must have at least 2 people in the car. If not, you'll be ticketed $200 if the police spot you.

The First Chili's Restaurant

by keeweechic

The first Chili's restaurant opened in Dallas on Greenville Ave. The building was an old inter-urban electric rail depot with a rail line at that time connecting Dallas to McKinney, Sherman and Denison. The building was later demolished to make way for a new Chili's restaurant and parking lot.

Just may be the Best kept Secret in Dallas.

This park is a hidden gem that is so close to the beaten path of dallas but yet it feels like a world away! It is near Turtle Creek Blvd and adjacent to the Dallas Country Club. The park and lake is located in Highland park which is an area of very impressive homes just north of Downtown Dallas. The park is full of bridges, waterfalls, pathways, sculptures, trees, rivers, lakes, and stone walls. This is a great resting spot after a long day. It is a very peaceful spot to go and walk around. Everywhere you look there is a bench just waiting to be used as a nature observatory. In a short walk I so quite a lot of wildlife for being so close to downtown. I saw ducks, squirles, birds, and city dwellers walking their domesticated dogs.

Dedman School of Law

by keeweechic

This school was founded in 1925 (under SMU School of Law) and ranks in the top tier of law schools, according to U.S. News and World Report. It was one of the first schools to sponsor legal clinics. Just one of the many impressive buildings on the SMU campus.

by where2next about Country & Western Bars

There are several Country and Western bars in Dallas. Many offer free C&W dance lessons usually on Sunday when business is slow. Hey, but who needs lessons - one just needs to find someone who can dance and they will lead. When I lived here I took lessons and actually got onto the dance floor. It's not that hard to learn.
