rent-a-car from the airport terminal
by juliamich
I will be arriving at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport and I was wondering how I can get to the rent-a-car office from there? If I book a car online, will they pick-us up from the terminal? Or is there a shuttle bus that goes directly there? I was just wondering how it would be difficult to bring around our luggages to many places. Any help? Maybe you could also suggest good rent-a-car services.

All rental agencies are consolidated at one location at D/FW. Therefore, there is a single type of bus that picks up everyone from every terminal to take you to that location. As I recall, it is a large bus that says "RENTAL CAR" on the front, but I suppose I could be confusing that with other airports ;-). There will definitely be signage on the vehicle to differentiate the rental buses from the buses that go only to other terminals or to remote or offsite parking.
Once at the rental facility, you can probably go straight to your car after locating your name on the board IF you are a premium member of companies like Avis and Hertz, or check in at the desks otherwise.
You normally handle your own luggage on the bus; however, it is not uncommon for the driver to help you (I have never seen much rhyme or reason as to whether they do or not).

It is nice to tip the driver a couple of dollars if he helps with your bags also.

The poster above is correct about it being a single unified rental car shuttle bus for all on-site agencies. All the major vendors are there, Alamo, National, Hertz, Avis, Yada-Yada.
Please do bear in mind that if you are renting a car, you will be put out on the south side of the airport, so if you have business/pleasure north of DFW, you will want to carry some cash or credit card to pay the toll out of DFW after going north (otherwise you will spend 20 minutes getting around the airport).
Definitely also allow plenty of time on return to drop the car off and get to your check in location, as the on-airport rental facility is a good 10 minutes away, and you will likely have to wait for your terminals bus.
Travel Tips for Dallas
Botanical Gardens,Six Flags...
by Boppy
Botanical Gardens,Six Flags Over Texas,John F. Kennedy Memorial,Wax Museum, and Ripleys'Believe It Or Not. When I was a child,my mother and I would go Downtown Dallas and see the Mobil Flying Red Horse, which still stands today.I am 59 yrs. of age. The Mobil Building was the tallest building at the time. Now it is dwarfed by so many taller buildings, but when I pass by there,it brings fond memories,to my mind. When I moved away rom Dallas,I missed the many Lakes in the area, like Joe Pool Lake,White Rock Lake, and others.I enjoy fishing.

Heard Museum
by btex
Heard Museum - it's just outside the town of McKinney (about a 30-40 minute drive from D.) It's a nature reserve and museum about natural history of the area. They keep birds that have been injured and that can't return to the wild. There are also nature trails where you'll see native trees and plants and animals...it's what the area would still look like if the farmers hadn't cut all the trees down all those years ago.
Deep Ellum district
by Masque1 about Deep Ellum district
Though a shadow of it's former self (or more precisely, a Universal Studios sanitized set of it's former self) Deep Ellum continues to thrive as Dallas' ecclectic live music club district of choice. Up and coming nationally touring bands come through here as well as the occasional esoteric local act that makes an impression. Ironically, the area got its start in the 80's as a collection of underground warehouse venues that featured punk/goth/fringe bands. Commerce intervened and, alas, Starbucks encroached on what was a nice little secret. After the New Bohemians and Ten Hands phenomena of the late 80's the lid was off. Anything goes these days as it's been homogenized but original period garb was black. Simply black.
