Thai Food Festival and Loy Kratong by kd_baby
Loy Kratong is a Thai festival that occurs, to quote one article, "on the fullmoon night of the 12th lunar month all over Thailand".Well I'm here to tell y'all they celebrate here in Dallas also. I just went on a whim; I didn't know anyone there. Anyway, although the festival was free the food costs money (and it's overpriced on purpose) and is provided roughly 1/2 dozen Thai restaurants in the area.
I hate to admit this, but as I Thai food lover this was the first time I ever drank Thai Tea! It was great, as with most Thai food I've ate (except Papaya salad...yuck).
Anyway, it's a fairly small festival, but you get to see some Buddhist monks, a statue of Buddha, a statue of King Rama V (I have know I idea who he is, but I'll find out), and watch some cool performances. When I was there, the current festivity was a "Thai Idol" contest, which was nothing to run tell mom about (but hey, at least they tried).
