Rodeo show on Tuesday?

by truemetal

We will be driving through southern states in April and according to the plan we will arrive to Dallas on April 8th (Tuesday). Unfortunately all of the rodeo shows I was able to locate so fat were only on Fri/Sat. Any suggestions where can we go on a workday? It does not have to be exactly in Dallas, anywhere along the way from New Orleans to Dallas or from Dallas to Albuquerque...

Your best bet for Cowboy related information and tourism is actually in Fort Worth. If you are coming from New Orleans, you will likely take I-49 north to Shreveport, LA, then west into Dallas on I-20. If you continue on Highway 80 in Terrell, TX you will reach downtown Dallas, and at that point, you are now on I-30. After your time in Dallas, remain on I-30 into Fort Worth, visit the stockyards, then you can make your way up the Texas pan handle to I-40 out to Albq.

For more information on the cowboy related things in Fort Worth, check out the Search: page at the top of the webpage here, enter in Fort Worth, then click on Things to Do. There will have many options, including the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Also, please remember to rate the pages that you read and put them in your trip planner. This is a great way of thanking people who have already spent alot of time building this information database for you.

Travel Tips for Dallas

Southern Methodist University--A Tour

by VeronicaG

On a beautiful Fall afternoon, we drove through Southern Methodist University, located in University Park, a residential neighborhood north of downtown Dallas. The treelined campus certainly made our tour an enjoyable one (picture #4).

The University was founded in 1911 and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Southern Methodist U. has an enrollment of nearly 11,000 students coming from all 50 states, including the District of Columbia; International students represent 86 countries.

The University offers the following schools:

Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences (pictured)

Meadows School of the Arts (picture #2)

Cox School of Business

School of Engineering

Dedman School of Law

Perkins School of Theology (picture #3)

School of Education and Human Development

FYI: There are ten libraries at the University, the most prominent being the Fondren Libary, Bridwell Library, Underwood Law Library and DeGolyer Library.

Almost another country

Texas is a world unto its own.. and Dallas being part of Texas is no exception. Whatever you know about other parts of the US is not necessarily applied to Texas. Politeness is part of the southern hospitality however there are oddities that don't quite associate itself with that politeness. Take it as you find it.

Service is not always as great as you expect but the friendly greeting is always there. Anyone non-Texan is definitely an 'alien' but if your visit is short, then just enjoy the 'visitor' experience.

Day Trips

by DEBBBEDB

When my mom and dad visit us, we will usually go to at least one place nearby as a day trip. So when someone asked what day trips there were from Dallas (and they had already been to Fort Worth and Irving) I asked, "Had you thought about going to Denton? Very nice town square, a little museum and some nice places to have lunch."

This was a place that my Father-in-law found, and he just fell in love with it. He especially liked Beth-Maries

Colourful and Eclectic

by keeweechic

Deep Ellum has been often described as a 'little New Orleans and Southern SoHo' - It is trendy and zaney and very unique. The shops you will see there are even decorated in a very colourful manner.

This is the place for pyschic's, tattoo shops as well as individual nightlife and restaurants. Deep Ellum is the modern eclectic side of Dallas.

Ginger Man

by twentysix.two about Ginger Man

This is my favorite pub in Dallas. As far as Ginger Man locations go, this is my favorite as well--Houston (the original), Austin, and New York. I have not yet been to the one in Fort Worth which opened in January 2007.

On Tuesday nights they offer logo pint nights (buy the beer, keep the glass) on various promotional beers. On Saturdays they offer live music on the back patio.

Oh yes...and they have two bristle dart boards inside. None
