HOSTELS IN TEXAS

by david1982

hi all

another Texas question from me...

Im looking to come to Texas in January and probably will be starting in DALLAS, moving on to FORT WORTH, AUSTIN, SAN ANTONIO, (few small towns maybe Bandera/Fredericksburg), then on to HOUSTON.

I'm on a budget and looking to stay in hostels in the cities, but havent had much luck finding any, except in Houston.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
David

Austin has a really nice hostel which is located on Town Lake. Here is their link:

San Antonio, Fredricksburg and Dallas all have KOA campgrounds that have air-conditioned camping cabins. They are usually inexpensive, you get a swimming pool, and usually some nearby attractions, etc. You just have to bring your own linens and toiletries. I stayed at the one in San Antonio, and enjoyed it very much.

thanks for your help. ive managed to find hostels in houston, austin and san antonio.

is fredericksburg far from bandera?

im assuming the campground in dallas is out of town! if so, how far?

any websites?

Egads! You're right! That KOA in Dallas is really in Caddo Mills, which is about 40 min. from the city center. Geez, sorry about that!

For future reference, you can find KOA campgrounds at www.koa.com

Bandera and Fredricksburg are about 1 hr. 20 min. apart. (50 ish miles)

I hope this link works! I found one in Dallas, 10 min. from city center. Is that too far? It's called Dallas Irving Hostel

RE: RE: HOSTELS IN TEXAS

Couple more for you, David....

Quality Inn - Dallas Market Center - goes for about $48/night (www.choicehotels.com/ires/html/QualityHome)

Red Roof Inn - also about $49/night (www.redroof.com)

Out of curiousity, do you know the name of the B&B at which your friend(s) stayed?

There is this quirky sounding place...Amelia's Place, basically an apartment that she sublets for $125/night. (www.ameliasplace.com) I was just wondering if it was the same.

RE: RE: HOSTELS IN TEXAS

cromette, thanks for all the help

yes amelia is the one, apparantly the bedroom floor is on a slope, the room is kitted out with whips and other sex toys, and she demands you to read out this stuff about feminism when u check in.

think i might just get a motel on the interstate!!!

LOL, thanks for the warning! I think I'd probably do the same if I were you!

Travel Tips for Dallas

Become Texan

by kingbk

Texans like to say y'all, gettrdone, coke for all soda, and more. Texans are very friendly. Ask them directions and they will help you out. Unlike most rumors, Dallas is a melting pot of all type of people from all over the world. There is a lot of diversity here.

Packing List

by shiran_d

Take less as possible with you when you travel. Summer months, leave all your heavy cloths at home.
Take only the light once like the linens stuff Travel light, when you need any thing you can just pop in to 24 hour stores like Wal-Mart and get all your stuff. So why bother take things you don't need to take when you can buy it there ? Take all you grear if you want to. No idea. But I am sure you can camp out very comfortably if you got the correct gear. But always respect the local rules and law. Have a great time. Enjoy your travels.

Dallas Underground: In the...

by Jim35

Dallas Underground: In the heart of downtown Dallas a 2 mile maze of underground tunnels and building-to-building sky-walks links 35 buildings and parking lots to create a climate-controlled network with access to about 250 restaurants, stores, and services. Enter from the Bank of America Plaza (Main and Lamar streets).

Great malls

by Faith08 about Grapevine Mills + NorthPark Mall

At Grapevine Mills Mall you can be certain to make a few (or many!) bargains. They have everything here, and at reasonable prices. The Ecko Outlet is also located here.

NorthPark Mall is also a good mall, the best thing about it is that it's possible to get there by the Dart (check out dart.org) Clothing, Shoes, Gifts, jewlery, art, books ect Varies

Deep Ellum

by keeweechic

Deep Ellum is the arts and entertainment area of Dallas. It was a former warehouse district and many of the buildings have been transformed into loft apartments and night clubs.

Many famous jazz and blues musicians have played in this neighbourhood since the 1920's which music was introduced here. It was also at one time a red light district and many murders took place around the nightclubs. It is a lot safer of course these days but like anywhere, precautions should always be taken.
