In Need of Inexpensive Place to Stay This April

by Mermaid0614

Hi, fellow travelers. I'm wondering of any of you can tell me of a fairly decent and low-cost place that I can rent for the month of April only. It needs to be close to the DART busline and not too far from the downtown area (or at least kind of easy to get there). It will be just myself; I don't want to spend over $500. What do you recommend? And thanks to all of you in advance!!

I have to admit that I can't imagine any place that you would want to stay that would be anywhere near $500/month. Of course, since I live here, I don't have this issue come up, but, still, a long term suite would surely be $70/day (you know, the sort of place that comes with a kitchen), and a hotel would be more expensive.

In addition, either you need to be close to downtown, or on the Dart light rail line. We have it here in Richardson, but there aren't too many such places all that close to the rail line...well, maybe someone else will have an idea...

Are you coming on business? Perhaps your business associates can spend some time looking for a room somewhere...

Mermaid,

Your price range is probably going to price you out of any decent place downtown. There are a couple of options you may want to pursue. Global Freeloaders and Couch Surfing.com are a couple good ones to meet people that might let you stay for that time period. I would offer you a room at my house for less than $500 a month if you are only here that long, but I am not convenient to the DART in Allen.

Travel Tips for Dallas

People

by OlenaKyiv

Big city but it was so easy to communicate with people and they are so easy to answer my questions. I was surprised.

One lady on the train told me about all shoppings I could go to. Then we figured out that she lived in Breckenridge for a couple of year. I talked with another lady about danger of smoking (note: her smoking, I don't smoke).

Nice people!

This festival is held annually in May and is the largest celebration of the Asian culture in North Texas. The entertainment is from all over Asia and includes a Lion dance, martial arts, sumo wrestling and Japanese drums as well as various countries performing their national dance.

The event is free and runs from 11.00a.m. to 6.00p.m. on the nominated Saturday in May.

Some other areas

by kingbk

Grapevine: This small town has vineyards, wineries and other cool shops and botiques. I'd head over here if you have time.

Las Colinas: It has a great mustang monument, and it also has relaxing canals with gondolas. A very romantic place to take a date.

White Rock Lake: The best kept secret in Dallas. A beautiful lake that is very scenic, with fountains, monuments and much more.

The Studios at Las Colinas: If you are a film buff, it's fun to come over here and tour the facilities.

Roanoke: A small town that has Babe's Chicken, a local eatery that I highly recommend checking out.

Addison: This up and coming area is fast becoming one of Dallas' premiere nightlife areas. There are many cool cafes, clubs and restaurants around here to visit.

Benbrook Lake: Near Fort Worth, this beautiful lake has horseback riding, and is a fun place to see boaters and fishermen.

Texas Theater

by keeweechic

Well any JFK assassination supporter will know the significance of this theatre. This was where Lee Harvey Oswald was captured in 1963 after he assassinated President Kennedy. Apparently Oswald felt like seeing a movie after the assassination but he didn't want to pay for it, so he just walked right on into the theatre. The teller called the police and 12 squad cars arrived within minutes to arrest him.

In 1965 the owners tried to modernise and covered the elaborate walls with stucco. The Oak Cliff foundation bought the theatre in 2001 and began proper renovations.

Address: 231 W Jefferson Street, Oak Cliff.

Great Sports Bar

by agmoose02 about Pugsley's Library

This is a great sports bar off of I-35 E in Dallas. This place has multiple large and small screen TVs, dart boards, pool tables, foosball and shuffleboard. On weekends and some week days there is also live music. There is also a large bar with a wide selection of drinks and beer, and though it is often crowded, you never have to wait long for one of the lovely waitresses to check on you. Open 11AM-2AM daily.
