Classic, Not Modern

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on November 28, 2014

This hotel has a great reputation and all the sites give it a high star rating. I can see why, kind of. Don’t get me wrong, the place is beautiful and very elegant. It looks like it could have been an old plantation at some point with its tall white columns and bricked steps.

The inside is filled with flowers and lots of very old, gold ornate art pieces. So is it nice? Yes. Is it modern? No.
The rooms ae spacious and just as bright and charming as the rest of the hotel. The beds are big and there is everything you could want, kind of. While everything looks amazing when you walk in, it’s the little thigns that aren’t quite right. The mirror was broken, the fausets were loose and the internet (which was an additional fee) did not work unless you stood up on the bed and held your arm in just the right way.

I only ordered room service once and I don’t even have words to decsribe what happened. I’m not the kind of person to complain to service people but I did this time. I called them back and asked them to take away my tray and not charge me. The friendly operator asked what was wrong and I said, “When I order a ham sandwich, I don’t expet a large roll with butter, and one slice of ham and a half slice of chesse. There’s not even lettice or tomato.” They kindly took it back.

To be fair, ALL of the staff was ridiculously accomodating and pleasant and trying to help.
All in all, everything was fine, but I wouldn’t stay there again. You should check this place out if you like old hotels with a lot of character.

In downtown Dallas -- The Melrose Hotel. In the 'burbs, I highly recommend the Westin Stonebriar in Frisco.
The prices at the Melrose are usually in the $200 U.S. range, with little discounting available.

The prices at the Westin Stonebriar range from $90 to $400 and vary widely depending on holidays, business functions, and the like.

Unique Quality: Built in 1924 the Melrose is an elegant property. Service is great, the entire property is VERY well maintained. When searching for a hotel for my wedding, none compared to the Melrose in terms of cleanliness and general upkeep.

The Westin Stonebriar in Frisco is a new property. They have a full-service spa, pool, and golf course. The rooms and ammenities here are very high end.

Directions: The Melrose is at 3015 Oak Lawn Avenue Dallas, Texas 75219-4134 which is near the Oak Lawn/Turtle Creek area. Very close to West End, great central location.
The Westin Stonebriar is in Frisco, about
