Scary

This is NOT a place to stay with family. It is in a bad area with all the local businesses either boarded up or covered with bars. When checking in, the clerk told us to make sure not to leave anything in the car.

We asked for two rooms adjacent since we had teenage girls and they could have their own room. But one room was already occupied so they wanted to put the second room on the other side of the hotel. The pool seemed okay but it was full of construction workers, each with their own coolers and 12 packs. Not a place to send teenage girls.

If you're just stopping for a sleep and don't need to use the pool, it might be okay. I mean, construction workers need to relax as well so its just not really suited to families.

I was really unhappy when they couldn't give us what we asked for so we decided to move on but since we reserved the rooms, they charged us for two rooms for two nights. For that alone, I will never stay at another Americas Best and wonder about the ethics of this place.

No breakfast to speak of even though its supposed to be provided and the rooms, for as little we were in there, were dark but seemed clean enough.

Travel Tips for Fort Worth

Bill Pickett Statue

by ATXtraveler

Known as the original Bulldogger, this Texan who was born in Taylor, TX (just outside Austin), Bill Pickett was the star of the show in the early 1900s when he would ride his horse next to a longhorn steer, jump off and wrestle the massive beast down by the horns.

Bill passed away while working at the Miller Ranch when he was kicked in the head by a wild horse. He was the first Black Cowboy inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in the 70's.

The Chuck Wagon Camp

by keeweechic

When the parade is over, the wagons make their way to the front lawn of the Coliseum and park in the designated flagged areas for each. I was shocked to see them all digging up these huge holes in front of these wagons. Well it seems, this is all part of the festival and it is a contest. These people have to live/cook like the cowboy did back in the 1880’s – this is serious stuff.

Billy Bob's Bucking Bulls

by grandmaR

Billy Bob's is America's "Best Country Music Nightclub," according to both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Founded in 1981, it contains room enough for 6,000 people to drink, shoot pool, play videogames or dance to the live country music performed nightly. And on Friday and Saturday nights, it has real, live bullriding -- by professionals.

The tourists line up to have their pictures taken on a fake bucking bull. Just before the picture is snapped, red lights come on in the bull's eyes and smoke comes out of his nose. At $25 per shot.

We did not go to see the bull riding and we didn't walk back to BIlly Bob's at all. I did take this picture of a fake bull. I did not see anyone use try it.

William (Will, Bill) Pickett

by Yaqui

Known as The Bull-Dogger, William (Will, Bill) Pickett 1870-1932, he became one of the most legendary cowboys of our time. He rode with the 101 Ranch Wild West Show that was begun by the “Buffalo Bill" Cody circuit and performed all over the world and was well known for being a Cowdog of the Bulldog breed, which were famous for using the method of biting the lip of the steers to get them to submit. He was inducted in the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1972 for his contribution to sport. It has been said if he was allowed to compete in the white rodeo’s he would probably had broken many records there too. It is too bad back then they empathized on color so much and not for the skill of the rider. Times have changed thankfully and now we all enjoy the company of all individuals of talent and heart.

Located on the corner of Rodeo Plaza and E. Exchange Ave in front of the Coliseum.
