Stockyards Visitor Information Center

When you are visiting the Stockyards Historical District, you will likely want to stop into the visitor information booth before you get started, as it will give you a guide to the area's attractions. I was a tad disappointed that the center is located on the far end of the stockyards, so you pretty much have walked through quite a bit of the stockyards before you come across it. They do offer historical walking tours that start from here, so check in first to see what there is to see!
A twenty minute tour runs about $7, with student and senior discounts.

Cattle Handling Demonstration

There appears to be a tour where people sit in a grandstand (inset on right) and the chief drover and the other cowboys demonstrate various facets of the life and gear. We didn't pay for the tour and we couldn't hear everything that was said, but I could see that they were demonstrating the cracking of a blacksnake whip. There were a lot of school children there, so maybe it was a school tour.
Teacher's Curriculum - Four Hours of Fun
The Stockyards Station Walking Tour participates in a "Four Hours Of Fun in the Stockyards" Educational Program in partnership with the Fort Worth Herd, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze. The complete package is $8.00 per person
Pate Museum of Transport

Along Hwy 377 just south of Fort Worth and north of Cresson you will come across The Pate Museum. The museum contains many aircraft, from the early propeller driven to jet fighter planes, are lovingly restored and in good condition.
Amongst many of the exhibits you will also see a complete space capsule along with a cut-a-way mock-up showing the inside of a capsule. The Museum was founded in 1961 and amongst the collection displayed on the grounds, there are also many antique and classic cars inside the main building. One was the Texas Longhorn Car which was handcrafted in San Antonio and took 12 years to build. The museum also has an antique private railroad car, a Minesweeper boat, and a 1500 volume transportation library.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance is free but a donation is always accepted.

There are also some cool bars in downtown Ft. Worth - In one, I remember sitting on a horse saddle/bar stool while wasting the night away. The area is called Sundance Square. A good place to find bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops.
