Trinity Railway Express
by serg_juv
Hi,
It seems that I can go from Fort Worth to Dallas in only an hour ($1 in Trinity Railway Express). That would be great as that would allow me to visit also Dallas without having to book a hotel there. Am I right?.
Thanks

It's $2 for a single ride from the Ft. Worth to Dallas...and it's $4 for a day pass.

You can use the TRE, but you might be frustrated upon your arrival in Dallas. I highly recommend a car in Dallas. Public transportation in the city is horrible and taxis are hard to find.

I disagree that Dallas Area Rapid Transit is bad. I have never had a bad experience on it and I have been riding for a while. Also with there online trip planner you can type in your start and destination and you can get step by step instructions. If you are intrested in talking about the TRE you can go to our lilttle forum and we can answer any questions that you have the address is:

Travel Tips for Fort Worth
Visit the Fort Worth...
by kmarie
Visit the Fort Worth Stockyards, this will take you back to the old west, great night life, great steak restaurants, and even a cattle drive. But don't miss the downtown area, the Bass performance hall is a sight to behold! Also you must visit the Sundance Square area. Inside the Botanical Gardens, there is the Japanese Garden it is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful.
Cowboy Music
by keeweechic
There is also plenty of Cowboy music with scheduled entertainment by well known Texas artists including Red Steagall himself and the Boys in the Bunkhouse. Now I’m not into this type of music so I had no idea who he was. As a native Texas, Red has had a long recording and performing career covering something like 35 years all around the world. He has even performed in the White House. He also had a career as a music industry executive in Hollywood and is today involved in the production of motion pictures and TV. shows. It seems he is best known for his Texas Swing dance music. He has been officially inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Since 1991, Red has hosted the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering in the stockyards, Fort Worth.
The Texas Civil War Museum
by VeronicaG
This museum is 'the largest Civil War museum west of the Mississippi River'. If you love dabbling in history, you'll love this museum!
It's packed with historical artifacts such as dozens of original military uniforms and accessories, many flags of the period, countless photos of those who participated and a wide variety of muskets, swords and knives.
Items range from the simple, such as a sewing kit known as the soldier's housewife to the more serious, an amputation kit to be used on the field. Our grandson discovered a lock of Jeb Stuart's hair, his compass and pocket watch. Audio visuals on artillery and the infantry drills are an interesting addition, as well!
A fantastic collection of ladies and children's Victorian dresses, including more intimate items like corsets and bustles, plus elaborate hats and ball gowns sit within protective glass displays.
Reason to return? In 2009, the sword of Ulysses S. Grant will be brought to the museum and placed on display.
Hours are Tues.-Sat. from 9am-5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Admission is $6.00 for adults; $3.00 for kids 7-12 and free for those under 6.

Interurban Trolley (CAR 25) Display
by Yaqui
The plaque reads:
Car 25 is one of four electric motorcars ordered by the Northern Texas Traction Company (NTTC) in 1913. The cars were manufactured by the St. Louis Car Company. These cars served on the interurban lines between Ft. Worth and Dallas and occasionally from Ft. Worth to Cleburne. These cars traveled at speeds up to 70 m.p.h. Car 25 features stained glass windows, inlaid mahogany paneling, and two passenger compartments - a ladies compartment in front with wool seats and a smoking compartment with leather seats in the rear. The NTTC created the Crimson Limited in 1924. In the case of motorcars this involved a change in the external paint job. The original dark green with gold trim was replaced with a read and white scheme with gold trim. Both the Dallas and Cleburne lines had shut down by the end of 1934. Subsequently, Car 25 found itself with trailer cars 407 and 411 being utilized as farm or ranch housing. Once Eagle Mountain Lake was established, these cars were effectively a lake house arranged like the letter U. At some point in time they were covered with a roof and enclosed on several sides helping to protect them. In 1995, the landowner Mitzi McWilliams, donated cars 25 and 411 to the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (the T). Two full time employees and a host of volunteers have restored the cars using a $220,000 federal matching grant.
Open from 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday - Saturday. A wheelchair lift is available on request.
Located at Corner of 9th and Jones Streets behind the Fort Worth Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) Station under the covered area.
Address:1001 Jones Street, Fort Worth 76102.
Victoria's Sterling Silver
by keeweechic
One of the jewellery stores in Rodeo Plaza is Victoria's. If you enter through the side door off Exchange Street, Victoria's is the second (open styled) store you will find. There are probably the most exquisite pieces I have seen, all handmade by native Americans. The workmanship is amazing and incorporates Onyx, yellow mother of pearl, turquoise, coral and spiny oyster. The silver is all stamped along with the designers signature. If you are looking for something different, this is the place to go.
There is a lot made by the Zuni Indians which are reported to be the best jewellers of all the tribes. All her prices are 50% off and from what I have seen else where and online, the prices are very good.
