Near the rodeo in the Stockyards District is a statue of W.M. "Bill" Pickett who originated the rodeo event of bulldogging or steer wrestling. His unique style was to leap from the horse, catch the steer by the horns and sink his teeth into the steer's lip-ouch!
He died of injuries, not from a steer, but from being kicked in the head by a wild horse. He was the 1st black cowboy inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
In FW around June or so is when it gets really hot(80s-100s) so if you are traveling to FW around that time you should take loose cloths. In any case you should take a pair or shorts etc, you can never be to sure about North Texas weather. If you are going to be doing alot of walking then the 2 main things you need to have is Bug Spray & Sunscreen!!!!

Irving is north east of Fort Worth. One of the main attractions of Irving is Las Colinas and 'The Mustangs'. The Mustangs are bronze sculptures which appear to galloping across a granite stream. They make up the largest equestrian sculpture in the world. There are nine of them in all and are amazingly realistic.
Also in Irving are the The Movie Studios. The movies studios in Las Colinas, Irving is where films such as ‘Robocop”, “Silkwood”, “Leap of Faith” and “JFK” were filmed. There are actual movie sets which you can take a tour of and be a participant in the Special Effects Show “Raiders of Las Colinas” and in the Sound Effects Show “Addams Family”.
At BB's, you can see live country music, do some 2 steppin', or just finish off some Lone Stars. Country music stars and wanna-be's play at Billy Bob's at sometime or another. The dance floors are huge. Video games and pool tables can be found. It's a good place for people that have watched the movie Urban Cowboy too many times...but john Travolta and Debra Winger more than likely won't be there...they're at Gilley's of course! Boots and Stetsons!
